Apparently, Revenue Canada has published the reported income of lawyers. Apparently, the top earning lawyer is someone in Windsor who made $8million:p last year. (I seem to recall a few years ago a lawyer in Saskatchewan who won the cigarette lawsuit made much more than $8million that year.)

Query: When will Revenue Canada publish the income of escorts?

I'd like to see a link to Rockslingers dubious assertion that the CRA (hasn't been Revenue Canada for years) is releasing the confidential tax and income information of private citizens.

Or is this yet another lame troll? I'm betting lame troll.

Don't forget: "hee hee hee"

If you're a partner in a mid-large sized law firm you're probably pulling in north of $500K per year. Injury lawyers probably more because they bill on a % cut of the settlement.

I've been told by a lawyer that most make mediocre incomes, and the very top ones make $150K-infinity. This skews the averages that law schools tout.

For the non-believer in our midst, the article starts on the front page of the Saturday Toronto Star. Yes, they use the term "Revenue Canada". Yes, some of us actually read newspapers.

It's OK to read newspapers, but you should realize that most of what's written in newspapers is flat out wrong.

The Canada Revenue data, included in a report commissioned by the Department of Justice to gauge judicial compensation rates,
LOL - I can't distinguish between truthful, factual information and incorrect garbage.

I'm confused.
What does Revenue Canada allegedly reporting incomes of lawyers have anything to do with the incomes of escorts? Secondly why would they ever publish the incomes of private citizens regardless of what they do?
Thirdly, why does Rockslinger keep posting this garbage? Seriously man, post less

Also, in my opinion, some TERBites are far too concerned with incomes of other groups of people. Teachers, cops, lawyers, escorts? Who cares? Focus on your own shit, and stop bitching about what other people make

The article is a joke. They call it employment income. These are private practice lawyers. It's their business income. But having said that, Harvey's ego is such that he probably happily cooperated with the paper.

The lawyer in Sask is Tony Marchant. The guy is a slime bag, even lawyers don't like him.

would you rather be a slime bag with his income or an average guy with an average income?

CRA didn't publish it, they provided the information - data only, no names - to the Justice Dept. after they requested it. Then that information made it to the press. Probably under the Freedom of Information Act I'd guess.

Well..its no surprise they made such kind of money. Conrad Black spent 11 million on his lawyer and yet still ended up in jail. I was surprised to read he had to pay retainer fees in millions upfront. Looks like the lawyer already knew he would lose the case and wanna get paid befor Conrad got locked up.

Before you start calling people trolls maybe you had better check the facts.

http://www.lawyersforfairtaxation.ca/top-lawyer-in-canada-earns-over-8-million/

From the article :

The information was obtained when the Canada Revenue Agency turned over the confidential tax information of self-employed lawyers to the Department of Justice (DoJ). The commission did not receive the names of the lawyers involved.

Big legal cases can stretch on for 10+ years, and include tons of associated expenses.

I would be asking if the money was (a) revenue (vs. profit), and (b) how often the lawyer made $8 million/year.

It could be the lawyer in Windsor won a 10 year legal case. $8,000,000 isn't such a good return when you realize that it was a 10 year long gamble, where the defense may go bankrupt instead of paying you, and that if you didn't win the case, you would be out a huge amount of expenses and 10 years of your life.

Like it or not, lawyers have a major impact on our lives. They write the laws and many politicians are lawyers as well. All 9 judges on the SCC are lawyers.
