go to http://openparliament.ca/bills

It is being fast tracked through the senate (which is scared of being abolished) and full of lazy ex party hacks who were appointed as a reward to their party loyalty

This bill may make MPs a brothel as hand jobs and even masturbation will be considered a sexual act

I suspect strip bar owners are salivating as strip clubs will remain legal . Even with no lap dancing or stripper masturbation C36 should bring back clientele (along with strippers) to the cubs

As for strip bars...........

I was a strip bar patron for years. I made a mistake of entering the hobby (seeing escorts/sex workers was not clearly for me) and then last year it became crystal clear that I hated taking the risk of unknowingly seeing a forced/pimped worker and I quit the hobby for good. I went back to strip bars after several years only to find out that it has virtually disappeared (here in Ottawa). The quality of dancers way down and so was the quantity of patrons. Sometimes even there were more dancers than patrons. Understandingly the availability of internet and ads for escorts and opening up of massage parlours all over put a real dent in the strip bar business. I expect the following after Bill C36 becomes law as far as strip bars are concerned (and I think that MPs would be likely closed or not operate in public). I can think of the following scenarios:

1 - A sudden and sharp upturn in strip bar business as many patron who left strip bars to seeing escorts would return and would some escorts to dancing business. This would be the case if contact and lap dancing in the CRs would continue to be allowed or if not allowed, it won't be enforced by municipalities.

2 - A further decline and closure of some strip bars if they make contact/lap dancing illegal too and enforced it as well. No patron in his right mind would pay up $20 to watch a dancers from a distance in the CR for a few minutes. Some may watch stage dances but not sure what would be the source of income for dancers.

3 - It may stay as is. Quiet but strip bars remaining in business at least for a while more.

Only time can tell which one.
it is all speculation as we do not know the final draft of the bill if it is passed

this seems likely for if it is not passed by december then there are no soliciting laws

MP's & SC's are named in the legal brief submitted by the Committee. Do not expect either business to close up shop. There is much unknown still at this time. And several other factors (such as provincial government, municipal government, police forces, etc) to consider. I anticipate a huge slow down initially for all avenues of the industry. But it won't go away. Folks will see what happens. But as the rest of the planet proves, sex work continues. Especially for those of us that choose it, and those with no choice. That said, there will be changes, adaptation, and alterations from what we know to be now.

That all said, it ain't over until the fat lady sings! Send an anonymous letter to the Premier, the Senate, etc. We have the power of #s at our disposal here on Terb. We should exercise that power!

Another thing that people aren't considering, along with the police force having to put resources into this, the strain and congestion it's going to put on our courts could be substantial, resulting in many people simply getting off on applying for an 11 b) (right to a speedy trial). The more LE tries to crack down on this, the more it's going to fuck up our already back logged courts.

The problem is who is willing to be the proverbial guinea pig when this hideous Reform Party angry old white man bill comes out?

For sure! But who's to say when or who. Could be pimps or johns or owners or advertisers or clubs or whathaveyou. Every freaken city is gonna be bogged down. Cities can't afford to enforce it. Cities can't afford to have working girls back on the streets or murders on their books. Cities can't cover housing, welfare, education, etc as it is. Sooooo many variables. Its hard to predict as of yet.

This is how I feel, many people are going to realize how retarded this bill is, and come to the realization it's cost more money and problems then if they just had of fucking legalized it like they said they trying to do before they pulled a Houdini on our asses.

LE will be lobbying for bigger budgets along with Police unions. It's in their best interest to use it for their personal gain. All it takes is for one religious Reform Party cop supporter to bring in the sledge hammer on anyone of the parties MPAsquared listed.

They can lobby all they want, this is the same government that has cut their budget. It isn't as easy as them sticking there hand out and getting the funding they're asking for.

This is true and hopefully under Wynn the OPP and under the municipality it won't happen but keep in mind we do have a new police chief and new mayor in the horizon. We do not know where these new appointed leaders will stand on this issue.
