The mean streets of Bloor West
There are so many deals to choose from and methods for searching.

Basically, this is what i'll be looking for: next weekend (August long weekend), 2 nights only (Friday/Saturday, or Saturday/Sunday), near the strip, good pool scene. I'm leaning toward the Tropicana so far.

Just looking for a little feedback on the best going rates, and if it's better to look for packages, or flight and hotel separately, and any first-hand experience with Vegas pools. It'll be fun just doing the search....

as far as hotels go there are some sites that have promo codes on them, you might find a deal on there. travel2vegas.com is one I recall

i haven't used a travel agent in a long time, don't even know how they are still in business with the power of the web.

expedia and hotels.com are pretty good too.

I wouldn't stay at the trop it is being redone at the moment I think but the overall feel was pretty run down the last time I was there which was about a year ago. never stayed there though.

for mid range I liked paris, ballys and aladdin/planet hollywood better, just my opinion. to some it doesn't matter as many ppl don't spend too much time in the room. if you can swing staying at the Venetian, Bellagio or Wynn go for it----well worth the $ to me anyway....

good luck!

Seems like prices are high for next weekend. I am going from Aug 1 - 5 and paying a little more than I usually do on my summer Vegas trip.
I booked it about a month ago and prices have not dropped since we booked.

Vegas is cheap in august as it's hot as hell there! Do a last minute package from redtag.ca, mandalaybay, Hilton, ceasears and hardrock all have great pools. Manadaly has an actual beach as well :)

Regtag is good, I'd say that Travelocity and Expedia are good too for last minute however if you want a great deal and are okay with learning the hotel upon confirmation of booking then Hotwire and Priceline offer the best deals.

as noted by others if you can stay away from weekends, everyone pours into town on the w/e to the point of it being a hassle to walk around on the strip. vegas.com has a listing of all the major conventions, those will drive up the prices of rooms big time.
