Larry Hillman just died at 85. He was the youngest name on the Stanley Cup at 18. He played defence for a number of teams in his journeyman career and finished up in the old defunct WHA.
Rest in peace, Larry.
Never did get his ''stamp'' for My Esso Power Players collection......Have the whole set but his. Sent away to Esso for it and they sent His brother Wayne's instead......Grrr.
Looked him up and he played 791 games in the NHL and 192 In the WHA.
I remember him as a lower paring D man who was a stay at home type.
He had a long career. Hopefully they paid him well at the end in the WHA.
Apparently, Brendan Shanahan(on behalf of the Maple Leafs) paid him the money he was after in the 1960's that the Leafs denied him. That is what the basis of the curse was. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2028919875610
I'm not even sure they carried 6 defencemen/3 pairings every game. Leafs had Brewer and Baun and Horton and Stanley as the 2 main pairings. Then they had Hillman and also Marcel Pronovost who probably got more minutes than Hillman.
