So I'm watching synconized womens diving last night(remote broke and to lazy to get up and change the channel) and I notice that a lot of the girls on these teams wear kind of big in the hips. Yah I know they have big muscle in their legs but muscle doesn't giggle like that, they seemed like older ladies almost past their sporting prime, one last kick at the can. So i was thinking we have sent over 400 athletes and coaches over to china and we may win 10 metals, so should we send an athlete there because they are canada's best or should we only send athletes who are in the top ten in the world?

Depends whether you think the Olympics are sport—send the best you've got—or some weird dogfight between nations—don't get into it unless you run w/ the top dogs.

I watched the synchronized diving for a bit last night. The korean and chinese divers
were sleek and entered the water without a splash.

The canadian divers, especially one of them, were quite big around the hip,
and the commentator made a comment about how she could not enter the water without a big splash.

These are not Olympics... these are the Chinese games. They send 10 and 12 year olds to win medals for the empire. This has become a farce.

They do?! How dastardly! Grownups can't be expected to win against ten year olds. We need more rules. That'll fix it yeah, more rules.

Well, generally, caucasian women are bigger in the hips.

So that's not so unusual for those Quebecois divers.

You'd be surprised. When they pluck 3 yr. olds from their parents and send them to hard labour camp....I mean "olympic training". You hardly stand a chance. Especially in gymanstics and diving.

What happened to the dominance of the Russians and Romanians in gymanastics??? They became democratic, and stopped abusing their citizens. well, at least in sports training.

don't get me started on China...... a bunch of thieving, pirating, human rights abusers to the highest degree. I'm directing my rage at the Gov't and it's enterprises not the people.

You really believe that about Russia and Rumania being democratic? In that case, I'm sure you'll be interested in a special deal on some moose meadow only Ii know of….

As to nations conscripting their wee ones for Olympic glory. Tell me how that's worse than suiting up toddlers in hundreds of dollars worth of imitation-pro gear and forcing them onto the ice indoors—indoors!—in arenas before the sun's even up.

They're called Games. You're supposed to play games. The first minute you take any of that Olympic, or any sport stuff seriously, you're lining up with the Chinese (yes I heard you, government not people) slave masters you think are so bad.

Besides this thread is supposed to be about whether it's unfair of Chinese divers to be 4'6" w/ no butts or boobs, isn't it?

You need to have certain physical attributes to be suited to specific sports . Cute petite Asian bums ( yes that's why I watch the diving) don't make a big splash when they cut throught the water . They wouldn't do so well in women's beach volleyball ( what a great sport :) ) Point is pick a sport suited to your body type if you want to win a gold medal . Although we glorify the medal winners the Olympics should be about competing and having a good time while doing it .

Of course the Canadian divers weren't actually 13 with falsified birth certificates.

Regardless the Canadian divers entire strategy was to be consistent (aka mediocre) for the event and hoped that all the other diving teams at some point fell off the diving platform. It might work... but I think not.

Look, they are new democracies, so they're not up to par with the western world yet. But countries like China that are dictatorial and autocratic are much worse. If you want to bury your head in the sand then so be it.

Hmmm you don't think it does? A gold medal comes with endorsements, jobs in broadcasting, coaching positions, etc......Just look at all the past gold medal winners the CBC has on their roster......

As for the age of the competitors. Don't be acting like this is anything new. Heck wasn't Nadia Comeneche 13 when she won her first gold? and wasn't there a sara something for the US that was 13?

You want to talk about travesty, need I remind y'all about the child beauty pageants that Jon Benet Ramsey was involved in?
