LA is flirting with disaster. By trading Shaq, and Kobe has yet to re-sign, they could be in huge trouble. Derek Fisher likely wont be back which means what else do they have? I originally thought it was a good trade for LA, but I have to reverse my stance. If Kobe goes elsewhere, how will LA fair with the core of the Miami Heat who couldnt even make it through the weaker East. In any case, I dont foresee the Lakers winning again anytime soon!

This gives everybody else in the West a chance....Although, the Pistons solidified their line up by signing Rasheed. Mc Dyess is a nice addition - he may not contribute as much, bad knees and all - but he won't hurt the team.

Good night and good riddance LA.

Lakers would have been much better off keeping Shaq happy and letting Kobe go.

I don't think the Wolves will be overly concerned about the Lakers in the coming season.

They are no longer a serious threat. Actually, I'm sad to say that they really did not turn out to be much of a threat to Detroit - even with Shaq.

Man you got that right, and if it wasn`t for that last second 3 pointer by Kobe in gm2 they would of swept them,Detoit really wiped the floor up with them.

The reason why L.A lost to Detriot is that L.A has lost that hunger to win. This is not a knock at Det. as they were clearly hungry for the ball. I didn't watch the entire series but from what i saw, Det. was on top of anyone who had the ball. In other words, tenacios defence. L.A looked like they (1) underestimated Det, (2) expected the champoinship to be just handed to them and (3) thought Det was going to run for cover at the sight of the world champs. That wasn't the case at all, Det never backed down and found a way to, not stop Shaq, but to limit his touches. Kobe can shoot all he wants, it got them nowhere. I think rebuilding the team was a good idea but i certainly would not have given up Shaq and resign Kobe. Pure idiocity (is that a word?)

I totally agree wit ya. There are a some players that are near the same caliber as Kobe, but theres only one SHAQ. Nuff said...
Yeah exactly during LA's championship run Kobe was a more replaceable player than Shaq. An athletic swingman that can dish and penetrate the lane can be aquired elsewhere. But there's only one Shaq.

During the playoffs during the Pistons, the Lakers were badly outscored when Shaq was sitting on the bench, one game he had to basically play the whole game. The Lakers are toast in the West now. At least Kobe will get his shots, that's all he really cares about anyways.

Looks like Vlade Divac is heading back to LA. Definitely a welcome addition - he's still one of the best passing big men out there - but certainly not enough to fill the huge void left behind by the loss of O'neal.

why is everyone still talking about them ??? lakers who ?
on another note, miami is a contender but they only have 2 pieces, they can not compete with detroit, they lost three from their starting line up...offcourse unless those backups turn out to be gems in the rough

Shaq replaces Grant who is a scrub. Odom somewhat overachieved last season. Caron Butler is a key loss, moreso than the other 2 players.

With all the movement it's shaping up to be an exciting season. The West will still be the tighter conference. With Shaq going to the Heat it at least puts 3 strong teams in the East (Detroit, Miami, Indiana).

As for the Lakers they could finish as high as fourth. With Divac they've got a centre. Butler was a great acquisition. Grant can be productive off the bench. Hopefully Odom will continue to improve. Providing that Kobe isn't in jail or doesn't get hurt he will score and score again and again and again.
