So dining tonight alfresco, with a marvelous veal parmigiana and a delight full bodied Spanish red (that's a wine and not one of Becky's distant cousins) and have realized I am caught in a dilemma.

I have a leg of lamb that I am going to roast over the weekend but cannot decide on the appropriate wine.

I usually prefer dry big full bodied reds like a cab. sav. but I haven't roasted lamb in awhile.

Suggestions ?

Depending on how much you want to spend try a Barolo.

Thank-you, I would not have thought of pairing it with lamb but I'll give it a try.

Found this one, seems like a mid-range price, just a touch sweeter than my usual.

Now I'm looking forward to the weekend, perhaps I'll finish the lamb outside on the barbie, and have a guest or two.

A little wine in the belly and the thought of sunny weekend seems close enough to touch.

"I got punched in the face by a thief and I have a swallon jaw, it hurts when I eat. I saw a thief stealing a lady`s purse on the train. I tried to stop him from running away, and got punched in the jaw, I got up followed him and yelling for attention at same time, eventually he got stopped by the securty. I droped my phone in the ordeal and somebody turned it in next day. I was very shocked by this incident, it has never happened in my life. "

At the criminal trial push the Crown for you to receive compensation as part of the criminal sentence.

You are also entitled to damages from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, but be warned they are a fucking nightmare to deal with and their decisions in some circumstances are downright disgusting. i.e. they held that a woman whose two year old was murdered did not suffer enough to warrant compensation for mental distress.

You can also sue the piece of shit, depending on the severity of your injury, consider small claims for $25,000 and do it yourself.

Nice Dens
Started putting Barolo and Barbaresca in my cellar 15 years ago. Delightful wines! Opened a 1996 Barolo last week. After a nice swirling in the carafe the boquet and flavor was outstanding. Yes it goes splendidly with lamb, either a leg or rack, also with a prime rib roast (first five ribs please).

My all time fav Italian wine was a 1995 Brunello from the region around Montalcino . So smooth, still remember the boquet just after un-corking the bottle. Been a single malt guy for many, many years, enjoy the smokey flavour as it trickles over the tongue. Anyone tipple a good Mexican Mezcal? Delightful product. Cheers GB

toguy5252 and gb, you nailed it.

I just cracked open a Barolo, let it breath and had a sip.
Why or why did my memory fail me and not think of this fine nectar sooner.

It proves that I really am deficient in my knowledge of wines and the cellar needs work.
That is what happens when you get stuck in a rut of always having your ATF, and not expanding your tastes.

Should make for a nice summer project, the re-stocking the cellar for next winter with a greatly expanded selection.

The Barolo was perfect with the lamb.
A tray of seasoned roast vegetables made me look like a culinary genius (I'm far from it).
Nailed the tiramisu.

But as always, it was the delightful company of a beautiful woman, that changed a meal, into an encounter that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Glad you enjoyed and had a great evening. i suspect the company of a beautiful woman could have made anything taste great.

I was in Montalcino last year. Had a case of Brunello sent back. Still have a few bottles left. Wonderful full body. Goes with most meats. You have to let it breath for a bit so always best to decant and besides that the deep rich color looks fantastic as you pour it from the carafe..

L2 - thanks for the thread - excellent job of maintenance since your earlier misstep of expecting us to take care of it for you! I am particularly impressed by everyone's ability to be nice in here - a true refuge from some of the seedier threads.

And my favourite scotch bargain - 10 yr old Aberlour. $40/bottle, can't be beat.

Care for a Guinness ?
Started the coals for the BBQ but it will still be a while before the steaks are ready.

Being a little creative with the salad, making what would normally be a blue cheese dressing but substituting Asiago and adding some lightly toasted walnuts.
