I have noticed the last few days while watching movies, TV shows etc i've noticed a lag time on the playing.The stop and start quickly issue.Like my computer does not have enough RAM..but it does.I did a virus scan.Any other ideas?

a) Have you unplugged your router and modem recently? (Do so. The software they run is often memory leaking shit and they will slowdown if you don't cycle the power every now and then.)
b) Have turned you computer 'Hard Off' as opposed to 'Soft Off' (Suspend of any form) recently. (Do so. You may have some run away processes, or Windows memory management may have gone off the rez.)
c) Have you updated your router's firmware to prevent this slowdown in the future? (It can help.)
1. Do you have a decent firewall? (Comodo or Zone Alarm)
2. Do you have a recent and up to date Virus Scanner? (Avast or AVG)
3. Do you have a decent Malware Protection / Removal Program? (Spybot Search and Destroy)
4. Do you have a decent system cleaner? (CCleaner)
5. Is your Windows up to date?
6. Are your drivers up to date?
7. Is your BIOS up to date? (OK, that can be hard and dangerous for the average Joe. So you can skip this if you want.)
8. Please say you're using any browser but IE. (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, whatever)
Please call back after you've gone through this list.
Yeah, a mini-bootable anything really, especially if you have a USB Hard Disk. There's a reason why I'll only use Windows if I'm being paid money. It may be related to the above.
I hate Internet Explorer. I was experiencing "Download Interuptus" and there was no way I could save what was already downloaded. I lost everything
and had to start over again when time and circumstances permitted.Have done this a couple times to test out a couple friends PC that was acting strange with Windows. It usually runs Linux well and impresses the heck out of them because they thought their PC was dying. Told them it wasn't their PC dying, it was just Windows mucking up and a HDD format and fresh reinstall of Windows fixed everything, making the PC run like new again.
You'd be shocked about the number of computers that go to the graveyard because of that. Especially when dealing with a bunch people that really don't know, and who are getting advice from idiots.
My usual toolkit for family and friends is a bootable Linux with a bunch of repair tools and ClamAV, a USB Hard Disk for backups and to be scanned with ClamAV, and a USB key with all of the software in my first post (plus common stuff like acrobat reader, vlc, picasa, etc.). In most cases, if a person's computer isn't packed with pirated software, backing-up data, restoring, re-securing before it goes online**, then updating is often the fastest way to go.
** AND YES, you really want a good firewall and virus scanner up and running before any Windows box is connected to the net, and to scan the bejuesus out of any backed up data (I do it twice. Once with ClamAV in a bootable linux, and once on the USB Hard Drive with Avast these days). You can actually be compromised before the updates are done.
yup, computers used by multiple users are worst...whimsical users installing themes & screensavers, free games which slap extra services in the background, etc.
I almost never use Windows, usually slap these on a windows box without having to muck around with free home annual licenses like on AVG/Avast.

Those free screensavers are a bitch. My sister played around with them and they highjacked her PC, disabled her AV and really farked things up for her. Ended up having to format and do a clean Windows install to clear it up.....:eyebrows:

No it's not productive. Throw away your expensive equipment (that isn't defective) and replace with more expensive?
That's like saying my engine on my civic is spluttering and instead of something practical like try replacing the spark plugs (or whatever, but you get my point) you suggest scrapping it and buying a BMW. Not in any way useful.
I think what OTB is getting at is all the time wasted on maintaining the OS worth it?
That analogy is a bit too complex for OTB, reason being, it's too simplistic.
Plus he's vested a lot of coin into their product line-up, he has to reassure himself daily on here that he did the right thing and brag, he's an insecure fella.
A lot of people are happy and content without materialistic things running their lives, others, well, you see how they are and how they let their "Made in China" products rule their lives....quite sad, and funny.
It can work both ways. When I bought an iphone it was 5 - yes 5 hours before I could use it. I had 3 different problems and itunes didn't work at all. A google search while trouble shooting found a whole heap of others having the same issue(s).
There's a umpteen website devoted to mac and mac discussion. If it just "works" then why so many how to fix/solve problems for macs websites?
The reality is that macs and their users have issues too.
Perhaps if the thread was, I'm replacing my computer and my last one was a pain, what should I buy? then the response from OTB would be useful. But that's not the case here.
Both platforms can have problems. Speaking from experience, the frequency of them occurring is higher on Windows.
If Macs were perfect, there wouldn't be a need for "Genius Bars"
