She has been paid by the insurance company for it, so she now has to buy it back from them . Hopefully they don't rip her

I tried to explain how valuable this fiddle was to a couple of people and they thought it was nuts that someone would own, play, and loose such a valuable instrument. Its age, and quality of construction allows this rare instrument to make music not heard elsewhere in the hands of a virtuoso. There are thousands of copies, but only ~500 genuine violins have survived the ~300 years since their creation. With provenance, they can fetch $3 million+.

Wasn't it just a loner?

she had it insured for what she paid for it, maybe they will let her buy it back for the same amount, or at most current market value.

Cremona is a very interesting city to visit, if you are in Milano a side trip there is well worth the time.

The world's most expensive violin in the hands of the greatest violinist of the 20th Century: David Oistrakh.

I would LOVE to have that care takers job. To play those everyday. WOW.

I wish I would have went when I was in Milan a few years ago. Sadly I was put off by the dirty streets and the graffiti that I didn't stick around Milan except one night and left in the morning. I did happen to have a wonderful dinner under the stars on a house boat restaurant that one night, but it was not enough to make me stick around. Decided to head over to Pisa and Viareggio instead.

Guess I just have to go back one day.....

Cremona is as famous for its dairy as it is for its fiddles. Hence the name of what you put in your coffee in the morning.
