Kris Versteeg Traded to Flyers

G

GlavaMan

The Maple Leafs have traded forward Kris Versteeg to the Philadelphia Flyers for a pair of draft picks, including the Flyers' 2011 first-rounder. The Leafs get likely a bottom end 1st rounder but still a first round choice. Also a third round draft choice.

Most likely the 29th pick, little chance of him being a franchise player. Burke is three years late on his rebuilding program, he should be fired next year at this time if the leafs are still in the same position.

Maybe we can trade the 1st rounder for the rights to Peter Forsberg.

Didn't Mr. Forsberg just announce his retirement? Even if we got him, he is only available for the playoffs at this stage of his life and the Leafs aren't going to be in the playoffs.

Nobody ever seems to understand the concept of irony or sarcasm on this website.

I dont like this at all. 29th overall (potentially) Versteeg is a good player, potentially above average. Who is out there at 29? Might get lucky but dont know about Jonathan Miller
http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ i see the project Boone Jenner at 30. I watch the Generals alot and love this kid. Hell Im no Brian Burke and dont scout much (at all) so wtf do i know. I just know my gut (whos gut? my gut) doesnt like it

Don't like this deal at all.
If you follow all of the trades that led us to this point we have:
Jiri Tlusty (13th overall) --> Phillipe Paradis.
Phillipe Paradis, Chris DiDomico, Victor Stallberg --> Chris Versteeg
Chris Versteeg --> 1st rounder (LOW) + 3rd rounder

In all:
13th overall + Chris DiDomico + Victor Stallberg --> 1st rounder (20+ overall) + 3rd rounder.

Umm, well.. played?

It seems a lot for the leafs to acquire Versteeg but sometimes deals do not work out. I wouldn't be surprise if Versteeg breaks out and ends up with a 30 goal season with Philly. We have to give credit for Burkies patience with Ron Wilson as coach. I feel that he tries so hard to keep Ron but how many player changes is he going to make to until he realizes that Ron has to go.

Burke now has the picks available in case he might want to sign a high-priced restricted free agent. Versteeg is a good player, but he was going nowhere. He's not the top 6 skilled or bottom 6 rugged player that Burke was looking for.

Great move, Burkie!

I haven't seen anything on Twitter to back it up, but Lajoie said a little while ago that the 3rd has already been offered to another team.

Not quite. Rules state it has to be your own 1st Rounder. But they still have their 2012 pick (in a supposedly very good draft year) so the possibility of an offer sheet for a restricted free agent exists, but is remote because (a) Burke doesn't like offer sheets due to Penner situation several years back (b) is smart enough to realize forking over unprotected 1st rounders is a recipe for disaster.

In the interview I saw he seemed a little too happy to be leaving. He mentioned "how rough it was for a bunch of guys and he was happy to be moving on."

It gave me the impression he wasn't really fully integrated into the team.

With the addition of Versteeg, the flyers are even stronger for the cup run. I think Leafs could have done better with the trade for a first rounder to another team.

Ironic that Burke said any trade to come this month is to help get them into a chance to compete down the stretch... How is a draft pick gonna do that?

Good for Versteeg as they say he wanted out. Shitty deal for the leafs as they should have one of the top 3 picks in June - instead it will be the 26-30th...

So what you are saying is that Burke could have gotten a higher pick from another team but he CHOSE to get the Flyers pick well i guess just because he is secretly a Flyers fan and wants them to win the cup. Idiotic to say the least.
