What I get out of this situation is how sanguine people seem to be about Russia's newfound bellicosity. World opinion goes apeshit over every little pronouncement from the americans, but when Russia threatens to recognise Ossetia and Abkhazia, deepsix's the only natural gas pipeline that doesn't go through russian territory (Nabucco) in order to gain greater leverage over Europe, etc....no one bats an eye. The public in the west are self-loathing or something, because I don't get it.

Serbs should not have brought them there 700 years ago to watch their sheep. Every dirt Albanian had 7 kids. thats why there are so many of them. Parasites on the Balkans is all they are. They cam have Kosova. Now the Serbs will deport them all from Serbia there and quarantine them and their filth. Hamilton inported ALOT of them when the Serbs were "mistreating" them. What a wonderfull addition they have been to Ontario and all of Canada. But what do I know?

I think the reason is that many people, especially europeans, believe that the world would be a safer place if there was another power to check the imperialism of the US. That should not be confused with hatred of the US, (as our friends on terb do) but merely as a wish for balance in the world.

From what I read a fair number of political and military thinkers both in G.B. and on the Continent are aware of and concerned about this problem - however most European Governments want to pretend it doesn't exist, because admitting that it exists requires them to make some choices that may prove politically unpopular and have economic impacts.

The post to which you react was phrased coarsely, however, it does raise a valid point. Is a lesson of Kosovo to other States - never allow an ethnic minority to build up in a certain section of your country?

In the real world complicating the whole issue was the Ottoman occupation of the Balkans for the better part of five centuries, and that for various historical reasons most Albanians became Moslems while Serbs remained Orthodox Christians etc. . .

ah to put a wrench into your simplistic us against them view of the world, take a look at the news footage of people in Pristina parading around with the stars and stripes and the Union Jack, those are Muslims that actually love the West.
