I use Kodi on my livingroom laptop (with a VPN) hooked up to a 45" tv, and have been for many years. It has worked flawlessly for me and I couldn't be happier. I haven't paid for tv for about 20 years now, and I haven't missed a thing. In fact, I probably have more available content than people who pay. I don't watch sports, so I have no issues.

Like the Xanax build because it auto updates to newer Kodi versions.

Haven't used Kodi in awhile but last week when using Kodi it auto updated to Xanax 2.6 which runs pretty nice.

Several are saying they are not using Kodi anymore....by chance is there a generally accepted better system these days?

After simply plugging my PC into my HDTV via HDMI cable, I've had great luck using this site, which at times has worked better than Kodi:

I was using Kodi 'No Limits' build without a problem until recently when I was being asked to subscribe to DEBRID when calling up TV programs. I saw many excuses for DEBRID being an economical subscription but I hate subscriptions. Is there a build that doesn't require a DEBRID subscription ?

Most, if not all these addons you use can be installed manually. I don't see the point of using a build other than the one directly from the kodi development team.
Anything else could very well be riddled with malware.

Addons4Kodi Subreddit is a great reasource:

Does Kodi have a build that doesn't call on DEBRID ? I like a build that eases access to programs as builds like No Limits, Xanax , etc do. The build user interface is intuitive and quick. Obviously bit fails if DEBRID is involved. If Kodi has there own build - can you provide a link ?

Thanks !

Seems like DEBRID is being pushed more and more, saying it allows for for quicker connections to seeing whatever you want, TV or movies. Don't know if this is true. Have not tried using DEBRID as yet.

I have an Nvidia Shield TV Android box and subscribe to Starchoice IPTV. More than 7000 HD channels, including nearly 380 adult channels. $10 USD per month.

If you're using it on a laptop or computer and not on a Kodi 'device', it's so much easier and useful. You can use the laptop to surf the web and do all of your other computery stuff.
Kodi is just a program that you run. You install one of several different video add-ons and away you go. The current build of Kodi is called Matrix and when they made this change, there was only one add-on that worked (The Oath). It works brilliantly with no problems. There are probably more out now, but I haven't looked.
If you have a VPN running (always recommended), just install it on any computer you have and see if you like it. There are walkthroughs of how to install the add-ons if you don't know how. It takes some getting used to.
You have to give the system a new data source for the add-on.
Then you install the zip file (likely from a safe GitHub repository).
Then you install the add-on FROM the zip file repository.
Then you have a little bit of configuration if you want like authorizing your Trakt account.
You're ready to go.
Like I said, it isn't for everyone. However, if you want to watch all of the tv you can handle (except for live), this is the way to go. I haven't paid for tv since satellite hacking was a thing. Kodi has made it so easy.

Note: all through this community you will see ads for VPNs. Once you have one installed, you are covered. Some newbies get it into their head that they have to install every VPN they see. No. Only one. You will see these ads everywhere, for good reason. Keep it on all the time.

Thanks, kilt boy ! Ironically, Kodi just updated to 19.0 (Matrix) and announced that it no longer supports No Limits so this is perfect timing. I'll try it as soon as I have an opportunity and up date this thread about the results..
