Cool video. The movie (called Knuckleball) that Dickey and others were in released in 2012 is worth checking out if you are a baseball fan.

I saw it - very good.... (and makes me believe Dickey has more years left in him....)

but he was injured and he was more dominent in the second half.

Keep believing :p

(though I do remember you being anti-Dickey from the start :p)
thats nuts

agree - I wanna see it again :p

Last year we were World Series favourites - we ditched two of our weakest players in Johnson and Arencebia...

We are going to get Garza or another bigtime starting pitcher.

If we are healthy - we are going to surprise everyone...

(I'm going through baseball withdrawl)

Bob Uecker found the knuckleball easy...he just waited till it stopped rolling and then he picked it up. serioulsly and optimistically, knuckleballers like Wilbur Wood and Hoyt Wilhem pitched well into their forties

More recently neikro's, hough, Wakefield.

I can't think of any knuckleballer in recent times who was an above average starter, that did not last into his forties.

Another great quote a little off topic....A pitcher was asked how he was going to pitch to Stan "the man" Musial. "I'm going to throw him my best pitch and then run and back up at third!

Hard to believe in the long history of HoF knuckleballers, Dickey was the first to win a Cy Young award in 2012.

Kind of off topic, but what is it about baseball that seems to attract a female fan base more so than the other sports?

Every time I watch a Jays game, there's groups of women together with their jerseys and hats cheering on the Jays.

Forget clubs and bars, a Jays game might be the best place to meet a woman in Toronto!

I have a lot of female friends who are into hockey (me - notsomuch... I like it but baseball rules in my world :p)

I think there's something about the number of times they play... All the interviews, all the colour commentary - it makes me kinda feel like I know the players... which makes me like them.

I dunno - I really think female sportsfans value the emotional side - I love having players I like... and I'm big on civic and national pride... (I love the Olympics and followed the World juniors closely a few weeks-ago).

That's why I don't get how people can radomly pick "their" NFL teams. It makes no sense (and when I do - I'll pick the Steelers because my dad liked them... or the Ravens because of Michael Oher)

It doesn't hurt that I went to lots of Jays games as a kid - including games in both of the World Series....

I expect Dickey to have a better year this season. Coming over from the NL was a big adjustment and he will be better prepared for the stronger batting lineups now. The 7,8 & 9 batters in the NL are always weaker than the AL and when one is a sure fire out as the pitcher it makes things much easier. I also expect Lawrie to continue his play form the second half. Once he started to reign in his emotions a little he began playing better. Don't get me wrong, part of the reason I like him is his intensity but he just needs to continue to keep it in check.

Thanks for the video Jennifer. I read somewhere that the ideal knuckleball rotates 1/4 to 1/2 a turn from the time it leaves the pitcher's hand to when the catcher receives it. This indicates how difficult a pitch it is to master, taking years of practice (along with constant nail filing).
