For some high end equipment where people will want to test it out to make sure it works..... I usually sell via ebay. Sure you lose out on fees and shipping but at least you don't have to have people come over to your house and there's no haggling.

My point is that there is a use for both kijiji and ebay. I look at ebay is a bit of a convienience fee and the buyer also feels like they have more recourse if the sale goes bad.

One last last question: Do the buyers use the same email address that Kijiji use to confirm/activate your ad or can you use a different email address?

Good question I never tried that before.

If you are concerned just create an email address just for your kijiji interactions.

Ads show up almost right away. I placed an ad on Sunday at around 6:00, had a dozen inquiries within minutes. Yes there were a few low ballers, which I just ignored. Sold the item the next morning. Met at a neutral location, and the guy tried to haggle me. I showed him all the emails I had from people interested and said, if you don't want it, one of these guys will take it... he paid me, and I helped him load the item in his truck, then deleted the ads.

Very easy process... but DO Take the time to protect your true identity.

sold a half ton, no problems. lots of responses, it went quickly. Having said that, I live 100k NE of Toronto and while there are schmucks here, a lot less than you will probably encounter in Toronto.
You mean Hamilton don't you?

This is a great idea. Should I give my local police station a call? Will the police ask where I got the stuff and where I live and my real name and do I have to collect HST?
When purchasing any electronics (or items with serial numbers) I always tell the seller it's for my wife and that she works for the Toronto Police Service so I want to be sure it's not stolen property. If I'm selling I tell them to meet near my wife's work, Police Division XX. Both help to weed out shady characters.

P.S. I've participated in some yard sales but always at one of my neighbor's place never my own place. The trouble with yard sales is that it is only one day and the pool of potential customers is restricted only to passerbys.
Advertise the yard sale with a general list of items on kijiji. You'll get way more traffic.

Every spring I go through my entire house and collect a pile of items I dont need or use anymore, and I then sell all that crap on CL or Kijiji. Its an easy way to make a few hundred bucks

One last question.

How do I know the stuff I buy isn't stolen? (Apologies if already covered in a previous post.)

Maybe a naive question. Can we ask vendor for photo ID and proof of purchase?
Fuck that shit. I have sold about 20 items off on kijiji. Longest I had an item in there was for about two weeks. Most of my stuff went within 3 days and if mofos were tentative or tried low balling I'd either ignore them or tell them to fuck off. You try pulling that nonsense and good luck anyone taking you seriously. I never once had to prove I bought it, show warranty or bills. Some mofos tired but got nowhere and lost a good deal. My biggest sale was a lens for $750. I sold cameras accessories car parts, furniture, straps, lenses, you name it....its really wonderful because you always find someone.

The only thing I worry is if they give me fake bill thus only try to use them where the stores don't check.

Guys, one last question.

So, I post the ad to sell my heavy duty vibrator.

I'm getting these email enqueries from people with weird names. Sometimes its the same person but now under a different name. What the heck is going on with these names?

Sorry about that, I think my mom is trolling kijiji again. Once gober stopped sending her his dick pics, she has never been the same and is still going through withdrawal. Whatever you do, never admit you know gober, just play it cool and eventually she will move on I promise....:der:

Had a few good solid runs in the past five years but for the past three ads I posted up I experienced nothing but no shows or those "serious" buyers leading to not replying to my text and emails. Luckily enough most meetups are done within or close by to where I live and or work.

I feel comfortable selling stuff in a public place (no, not the dildo). Not sure I want to buy anything.

Years ago my late father bought some jewelry from a guy in a bar. The police paid us a visit the same night.

You guys weren't kidding about people trying to knock your reasonable price down to almost nothing.

Without sounding racist I found xxxxxx and yyyyy to be the toughest. On the other hand, white folks are generally very reasonable.

People use multiple emails and try to low ball you, especially if your item is on there for more then a week. They try to sense how desperate you are to sell. Lots of games going on there.

You need to be consistent and not easily manipulated. Some of these guys are professional.

If you act like a little bitch, people will sense it and treat and fuck you like a little bitch. No sympathy there. i.e. you tell one person one thing, and change with the next, to the next, and try to play them against each other.

I found that if you just list stuff for 50% more than it should, the bargain hunters are happier to buy it. They like thinking they got a great deal.

E.g., I sold a chair that was worth $800 new, after using it for a year. I figured half price was reasonable for a used chair, so I listed it at $700 and some guy bargained me to $400. Which was the fair price all along in my mind.

If I had listed at 400 he would have tried to get it for 200.

Thanks guys. I'm learning the "game" very quickly. Some of the folks give me their phone numbers and as soon as I hear a couple of distinct accents I just know they will try to negotiate the price down to almost nothing.

P.S, One guy wanted me to bring the item to his neck of the woods because he didn't want to incur a TTC expense to come to my area.
