That only works if you're on a network (and yes, there are people who want to lock their keyboards at home).

No it doesn't. You can lock your computer without being on a network.

If you have a standalone workstation (a pc that is not part of a network) running Windows 2000 or XP, then you will have to activate the security options on your PC.

Click on the 'START' button and select Control Panel. Click on User Accounts and select your user name. Assign a password to your User.

Doing this will activate the security functions of your PC. the Ctl-Alt-Delete button will now allow you to lock your PC.

Have fun...

Ok, people, after listening to everyone's advice I have learned that someone simply has to go into WINXP user's accounts and turn the damn thing on!!

But thanks anyways

For those computer challenged people like me, here's what you do:

Click START
Click Control Panel
Click Users Accounts, and go from there
It's not too difficult to sort out

This great program will encrypt everything in your hard drive. Only with a valid pass can you open the container that holds your encrypted data. Your password becomes the encryption key.

encryption is the only true way to protect your information on the harddisk. Encryption is only as safe as your pass phrase used to encrypt the information.

It is easy to break into a XP locked computer.

There are tons of utilites out there to do that.

Windows xp administrator password forgotten

I forgot my adminstrator password and now i can't log into my account.

Of course none of these options will do anything to protect your PC if you DO NOT have a login password. If you have the screen saver or workstation locked, unplug the PC from power for about 15-30 seconds, plug it back in and power it on. If there is not login password, you are in.
