A tragedy.

From Yahoo News:

Reports are still coming in regarding a tragedy involving the Kansas City Chiefs, but here's what we know at this time. Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, at a house near the team's facility on Saturday morning. Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, who is on scene, confirmed the name of the player after speaking with local police.

After the shooting, Belcher drove to a location near the team's main campus and took his own life. Per the Kansas City Star, members of the team's staff tried to stop Belcher from committing any other acts of violence before the player turned a gun on himself. The Chiefs' Arrowhead practice facility was evacuated and is currently on police lockdown.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reported that the mother of the murdered woman called police and told them that her daughter had been shot. Police arrived at the Chiefs' facility only to find Belcher in the parking lot with a gun to his head. As one officer got out of his car, he heard a gunshot. Belcher was later pronounced dead. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said that Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel were among the team employees in the vicinity.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Chiefs players have been asked to assemble at the team's main facility so that they can be informed of all the details.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead at 1:00 PM ET Sunday, and per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers have been told by the league to travel to Kansas City as if the game will be played. The Panthers' plane is set to leave at 1:15 PM ET today.

The side affects of steroid use can drive a person to misjudge or possibly cloud his reasoning. But then again, who the fuck cares about a multi-millionaire. It's not like he's donating a shit load of money to charity, or saved peoples lives. A person who contributes greatly to society and passes on, would be a tragic news. A person who makes multi millions by playing football and does something stupid, no one cares but the club who invested millions on him.

Typical knee-jerk reactionary stuff. Amazing empathy and understanding of mental illness and traumatic brain injuries - one or both of which I'm 99% sure will be found to be the case.

Terrible tragedy for the girlfriend and her family and loved ones, and I hope the 3-month-old daughter is okay. But before pronouncing judgement on Belcher, let's try to hear the facts of his (probable) mental illness. I'm not defending his actions, but I do understand mental illness AND CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and how both can make one completely lose touch with reality and right + wrong.

According to police, Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, 22, at home around 8 a.m. CT, with the woman's mother present and a witness to the murder. Belcher then drove to the team facility, where he later shot and killed himself in the parking lot of the team complex, in front of GM Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel, as well as other team personnel. A KCPD spokesman said Pioli and Crennel tried to talk to Belcher, who thanked the men before taking his life. Belcher and his girlfriend had a three-month-old child.

Once again we will have to wait for the autopsy to fully understand if he had CTE or not. But all the signs are definitely there.

Absolutely. It does sound like it may well be something like this. I don't think it is just people talking when everyone who has known him from University on say that he was about the last person they ever expected to do something like this.

I read he was only on the injured list once in 2009 and that's it. He played in every game this season. He could've had a severe head injury, but maybe his girlfriend broke up with him, or he caught her cheating on him and he lost it? Some people just severely overreact.

That's what I would bet on. Catch a man on the wrong day and anything could happen imo.

Was watching TV news and people who know the couple said they were constantly arguing. Luckily the baby wasn't hurt which is unusual in these cases. Was there no way anybody could have predicted this?

I agree 100%. We, as a society, are always quick to insult situations that have not yet been investagated. No one knows the reason, so why speculate, why insult, why not just keep quiet until all the information comes to light, then make your opinion knowen.

We have knowledge of concussions and the aftermath they leave (I speak of experience) depression, mood swings, suicide thoughts.
Your playing in a macho sport where your job can be now lost if you get injured.

Now I don't know all the facts but I have one question, why take the girlfriend?, like the wrestler Chris Benoit did to his family.

Like Captian Fantastic, I"m not defending what he did, hurting his love ones, his girlfriends love ones plus his little daughter, but mental illness is a horrible disease that shouldn't be talk about in a dismissive, insulting attitude.

Lets all pray that when his little girl grows up and is told the truth about her mommy and daddys death that she is not haunted by nightmares for the rest of her life.....poor little child :frown:

PS: FYI, about 21 concussions and unfortunatly...one suicide attemp.....thank god for my family and my shrink!!!!!

The guy just became pro in 2009, it wasn't CTE but this too many freaken guns. His GF pissed him off and he just lost it for a second. With a gun it just takes a second to kill. Once again other legal gun owner in the USA committed another murder, happens like everyday here in the USA !

I heard the GF stayed out till 1am Friday night, he was stuck home with the baby. How many times does this seem to happen, once they have your baby, its honeymoon time is all over with. She knew she had his ass for child support and no longer "needed" him. So she stayed out later not caring it piss him off, she thought fuck it, nothing he can do about it..well he proved her wrong and 30 mins later as the police closed in, he said fuck it and killed himself.

This happens all the time, everybody has a gun it seems like and once again another person in a fit of rage goes shooting off their gun--many which are legal gun owners.

But yeah blame CTE, not the problem that it takes only a second to kill with that gun in your waistband

Nobody cares about anybody. They don't care about that bum on the sidewalk, they don't care about the multi-millionaires, they don't care about that person who runs a red light and gets run over...nobody cares about people they aren't close to unless maybe they happen to be kind of like you and you think, gee that could have been ME.

That is why that theater shooting shook so many people up, they thought gee, I could have been there, I go to the movies sometimes. It could have happen to ME.
