I would be put off by her attitude as well...But working in retail, I also know what it's like to deal with people all day, so I've developed a bit of sympathy for people in that sort of position. You don't know what kind of day she's been having, or what kind of arse holes she's been having to deal with all day. Neither do I, but I've had those days.
I disagree, dave... she's working in a position where the people are already under stress. At the very least she could have looked at me, and smiled, even if forced.. its better than treating people like they do not matter.

If she worked for me, I'd fire her ass on the spot.

I've worked in retail too and there's just no excuse for rude behaviour. Too many people make excuses, "Oh she's having a bad day, etc, etc"... sorry that does not cut it. If you're gonna deal with the public you gotta treat them like people.

what is the one thing that STRESSES you out the most?
Okay this may sound strange, but one thing that STRESSES me out the most is ME!!!

Stresses are always going to be out there. Only we decide what gets to us. Others can change everything around us, but no one can really tell us how to think. That is completely upon us.

Get a control on your thinking. YOU decide what will stress you and what will not.

While I agree she should have, I'll still say you have no idea what was going on with her. I know I've had days where I couldn't put on a smile if it was drawn on.

Maybe if the public treated us more people it would be easier. I wish I could remember where the article "the Customer Isn't Always Right" was. Basically it was written by someone who had taken to watching customers/public deal with people in the service/retail environment. Their observation was that alot of people act like arse holes to the people behind the counter. And I agree. If you want me to treat you like a person, treat me like a person as well...Just I may not be in a good mood if the last five people didn't do the same.

Yeah, yeah, but, I think that its your job to be polite and not splash your bad mood on others. Its called being professional.

I always treat service staff politely, having been in that position myself, and I think there's no excuse for rudeness to someone just because the last customer ticked us off.

I know, a lot of these staff get paid minimum wages and so its hard to expect expert training in them.. but I still feel that the basic requirement of any public contact job is the ability to be polite. If you get pissed off at someone, either shrug it off or take a 30 second break to calm down.

on your girlfriend
People who think that they know everything and are unwilling to listen to the opinions (and facts) of other people, who are in fear of being wrong, and will fight to the death that they are right (on any topic they choose).

For example, I just had a debate with someone a few days ago that the speed of light was faster than the speed of sound. They would not change their mind, even when confronted with the proof.

I agree, I mean seriously, neither have a thing on the Speed of Lint!!

Ok, in all seriousness, what does stress me out?

Invasion of personal space. I don't like people being really close to me, and I really dislike being touched by strangers, even if it's a bump or brush. Now you're thinking "Dave, you're really in the wrong place." It would sound that way, but in the case of SPs, MPs or what ever, they are "invited" within that space. I have a coworker who likes to put her arm around me and rubs her cheek against my shoulder. My skin just crawls eat time she does that.

Invasion of personal space. Didn't I just mention that? This is more along the lines of people going around, into and fiddling with stuff that's "mine." I don't mind you looking at my car, or asking me questions, don't freaking touch it! That kind of thing.

Christmas/New Years. Each year, I've gotten to dislike those two holidays more and more. The increased pressures of work, the over blown hustle and bustle at home, 2 months of Christmas carols, the mock cheer that tries to hide the anxiety and frustration of others, the prospects of spending the day with family (I'm not married, my Mom, sisters/brother and their family). By the time Christmas Day rolls around, I'm in a horrible funk that I want nothing to do with anyone. I've been very close to just getting in my car, "saying see you folks later", and just going where it takes me. By the end of the day, I just feel hollow and well come my bed.
