call one of the junk companies, your local garbage service may or may not take it depends on the contract, if you break it up and put it in a spot that they can just pitch it into the truck the costs will likely be lower.

The city won't take any construction garbage. If you decide to to load up your van/truck and get rid of it yourself, you'll be charged by weight. However, unless your truck has an automatic hoist, you can only dump your garbage during limited hours at the transfer stations. Monday is all day access, the rest of the weekdays you're allowed access after 4 pm.

A friend of mine called one of those junk companies to haul away some stuff.... The guys that showed up with the truck were great. They helped load the truck and everything was done and cleaned up in about 45 minutes. Don't know how much they charged but I think their number is 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Should call and get a quote.

You don't live in Toronto do you.

It would be easier to go to the moon than have the City of Toronto garbage collectors pick up any such thing. EVen if you sawed it up into 1 foot long pieces and fit in your grey bin (which would take about a year), they still wouldn't take it away.

The OP has 2 choices.

Rent a bin and pay for it to be hauled away, or rent a pickup truck and make repeated trips to the nearest Transfer Station (keeping in mind that they only allow home owners to dump shit for about 2 hours a week).

I have used this company in the past http://www.junkit.ca/index.php
I went the full service route (insert jokes here guys) and found the guys to be very helpful. Booking with them was easy and there were no extra charges. It was about $100 min. charge just to get them out to the place and the cost went up based on how much stuff I had to remove. I actually contacted a couple of my neighbours a few days in advance and let them know I was paying a junk removal company to come out, everyone had something they wanted to get rid of so on the day that the guys arrived we filled a truck and everyone split the cost (around $500) which ended up saving everyone money. The min. charge applies to around 1 pickup trucks worth of stuff to be removed and full truck will hold about 9x that so in the end each neighbour put in around $100 and we tipped the guys well.
