Well Ballsillie will just take his bag of money and go home. Good luck to the NHL in getting another suck...eh I mean investor to buy the Coyotes in situ facing a $40MM loss in their first year.

Why did he put the June 22 expiry date on the offer? If he had given the NHL more time in the initial offer, there would have been more time to sort out the details of the sale, and the judge may well have ruled in his favour.

Bettman will probably find another buyer who will go bankrupt in a year or two or end up in jail:( . Remember Bruce McNall?

So what about the crediters? How are crediters going to get their money? I thought the Judge's best interest was in the crediters. Now the crediters are screwed.

No he didn't. He ruled that there wasn't enough time to sort out all of the legal work involved... and of course there wasn't... bankruptcies take months if not years to resolve...

You don't even have to go back that far. How about Boots Dal Baggio?

Those Argo's owners want to buy the team and keep it in Phoenix. But they no doubt have something up their sleeve.

If they're approved as the new owners, they'll probably keep the team in Phoenix a year or two, lose some more money, then say theres no choice but to move the team. They would then no doubt consider moving it to Toronto.

Hamilton is small, boring, no has infrastructure, has a 25 year old arena, no condo's being developed and was recently bankrupt. There are much more deserving and appealing cities out there such as Winnipeg and Quebec City.

Personally, I would rather support a new team in Toronto rather than the Leafs, and before anyone else gets a winning team, we deserve one.

The ARGO owners were having a tough time paying their bills and had to go to the BC Lions owner a guy from HAMILTON to assist them.

Noble effort, but the deck was way too stacked. Even with a favourable ruling there was no chance the board of governors would've approved a rebel like Ballsillie. And we haven't even mentioned the inevitable MLSE roadblock and minimum $200 million relocation fee.

Jim, take your money and run. Go buy an island. And on that island you can create your own teams with rosters chalk full of bikini models, porn starlets and the like.

How are the Argos' owners going to stomach losing far more cash with the Coyotes' franchise when they couldn't handle the Argos' losses without some shady help from a rival CFL owner?

Hey, I know the Argo's owners don't have as much money as say, an NFL owner.

That story of the BC Lions owner fronting the Argo's owners half of the $2 million franchise fee to claim the team out of bankruptcy was just revealed today. The Argo's owners were claiming about buying the Coyotes a few weeks ago, but since this new story leaked they're technically screwed.

Let's be clear about on thing. The ultimate loser in this matter will be the NHL owners who have to fund this dog. There is no buyer. That Gary Betman even mentioned the Argo owners as a potential buyer shows how desparate they are.
The NHL's skill in picking owners is remarkable. Look at Tampa, look at Nashville, about 10 years ago the Islanders. Look at Bruce McNall. All you need to be is a smooth talking con man. It appears the last thing they want is someone with real money like Balsille.
How will the other owners celebrate their court victory when they are asked to contribute three million each to cover Phoenix's losees for this year even the other teams that are technically bankrupt.

Balsillie gave himself the out on purpose. He's setting himself up for a team, but he wants the terms more in his favour, where he's calling the shots. Bettman called his bluff and now that blowhard is backing down.

This almost touches on the main issue with Balsillie's bid ... He's rubbing all the other owners the wrong way and they won't let them into their club. If Mark Cuban started wigging out like Balsillie BEFORE he bought the Mavericks or if the rest of the NBA knew what they were in for, do you really think they would have approved Cuban's purchase? You have to play the game to get in the game and then you can change it. Balsillie has been an arrogant blowhard and he's getting what he deserves ... Jack shit!

I just don't understand how anybody would want to buy a business that's going to lose $40MM next year and has no realistic prospect of ever running in the black.

Don't think for a minute that NHL isn't already sweetening the deal. These guys aren't stupid. Nobody buys a money loser like this unless there's a big upside somewhere. I bet the Coyotes are only in Phoenix for a little while. Give it a few years and they'll come out saying how they tried really hard to make it work blah blah blah.. but they've got to relocate to another POS US market like Kansas City or Vegas.

Coyotes hire Gretz as coach and no matter what he does never would get fired ... How many years have Coyotes not won a playoff round or not made the playoffs and they blame the market ...
Don't forget, Gretz makes over $7million per year as their head coach! That alone can lead a team to financial troubles...
