Tory's budget plan calls for councillor raises, office spending increases

As Torontonians are asked to stomach a 2.25% tax increase, Mayor John Tory plans to increase his office budget by $316,000.

And city councillors will receive a pay hike and an increase to their office spending as outlined in proposed in the 2015 documents released earlier this week at City Hall.

If approved by city council in March, it will see Tory’s office budget move to nearly $2.2 million, up nearly 17% from $1.88 million in 2014 when that amount was split between then Mayor Rob Ford and Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly, who had Ford’s statutory powers and most of his staff in the wake the crack cocaine scandal in 2013.

The proposed increase in Tory’s budget is $800,000 more than the $1.55 million budgeted to the mayor’s office in 2012, the last full year Rob Ford had all of his powers and a complete staff.:frusty:

Which was an amount entirely wasted—no pun intended—by Rob who was in full-liar drunken-stupor, crack mode. We'll leave the value we got for 2011, 2013 and his rehab time as a thought exercise.

Why would this be surprising? When you're actually doing work the expenses to do that work rises. Plus the expenses for personal drugs aren't billed to taxpayers.

So its your opinion in 2014 the combined Rob Ford and Norm Kelly did only $1.88 m work and the expensive flip-flop artist will do $2.2 m work in 2015?

Are you considering the time that Rob Ford was in rehab - then hospital to be a time when he worked? Plus, the city was a much more productive place when Rob Ford was in rehab. If I were to consider Norm and Rob together I'd also want to factor in how much time and money was wasted by Ford and the circus he brought with him.

So, factoring everything each person brings to the table, and takes away, I would say that Tory would do a better job than Ford.

Ford did a hell of a lot less work than that. I don't think he did that much worth of actual work his entire time in office. The more I look at it the more it was others covering for him.

Tory will easily justify his budget. It's too bad your boy Rob is now a bench player forced to snipe from the sidelines. It's all he will have for the future too. He will never be Mayor again. Ever.

It doesn't matter what you say, what you post, none of it. He will never be Mayor again.

Ever.

No. Kelley did all the Mayor's work; except he was away in Gravenhurst drying out (we think) Robbo could perhaps have made a case for doing the easy part of a Councillor's job, getting a couple of potholes filled. Trouble was, there already were Councillors doing that, and collecting the pay.

Too bad there's no Mayor's School to learn Robbo some mayorin'. But he'd likely quit that like he quit Carleton. With tongue in cheek, I used to say politics was the closest to an honest paycheque he ever came, but that was before he spent a year shamelessly lying to voters and his Nation about being a drunken addict.

Even less honest than the average pol. Certainly less value for money. Whatever it might cost to run a Mayor's Office in TO, nothing Rob did has any relevance.

Taxpayers chucked the Fords out of the mayor's office. Your guy lost. Doug was actually more popular than El Cracko and still lost badly.

(I can cite you polling data that shows Doug was more popular, that he got a bump when he took Rob's place.)

You can cry all you like, but what the link proves is that Doug Ford polled higher than Rob Ford, and that that Fords still lost. This totally disproves your theory that Rob would have won. Doug polled higher, and still lost.
