keep your heart rate up but run in intervals. (walk for 1 minute, run for 2 minutes etc)
I think that's going to be my plan of action for the next few weeks! Seems like a good way to build endurance.

If you've got heart issues, check with your doctor first before doing any strenuous physical activity!
I checked with my cardiologist, he couldn't give me a clear answer other than to start off slow and see how I do.

Ameena, this is very serious. YOU ARE IN THE HIGHEST HEART PROBLEM RISK GROUP IN THE WORLD! Do some immediate research on this subject and on your family history (if possible). I just did a quick search on Goggle by punching in: "east indian heart" and it confirmed my worst concerns.

I don't mean to minimize the situation, but I have a feeling that seeing a cardiologist (which she is doing) is a better course of action than a Google search.

DO BOTH! I am surprised that Ameena is not aware she is in such a high risk group. I am not East Indian myself but learned of this fact by sheer chance. Goggle provides references to a lot of valid info sources. It never hurts to do one's own research as medical professionals are extremely busy and don't always tell you the details. An educated patient is a smart patient.

Running form nowhere to nowhere. Should be banned.
A very wise, old doctor once told me - "God only gives you so many steps to take in life - those that chose to run only use them up faster than those that don't."

Here are a couple of stories:
1) One of my colleagues who was a marathon runner "blew his knee out" at age 48. Doctor said the knees have only so many bends and he maxed out.
2) A doctor once said that every hour running extends your life by one hour up to a maximum of 4 years. So a runner who lives to age 90 actually spent 4 of those years running around:p .
