Did anyone see the Sun's top 5 guitarists listed?

Graned some good talent there, but Jimmy Page was missing.

Can't think of anyone better?????

Maybe Jimmi?

Is it just me or did they miss something?

I saw that a while ago. How they could list Neil Young ahead of Jimmy Page I'll never know.

OK ,ricahrgl.... we know you dig Jazz and Jazz GTR dudes. I think there are some of us who are more into /influenced by Rock music than other genre. Ain't nothing wrong with that, right !?!

Living here in New Jersey (for better or worse) I didn't get to see the Sun's list. Can anyone help a brother out and post it here?

Many thanks.

Ps. Duane Allman

Most Under Rated?

Really a tough call to name the 5 best of all time. It is easier to name two of the most under rated of all time: George Harrison and Richard Thompson.

Way to go hdog for including Wes Montgomery - No such list is complete without him.

I've heard some top-notch guitarists say that they're constantly amazed by some things Les Paul's played.

Jimmy Page is overrated when it comes to his technical proficiency on the guitar. He's a brilliant musician, but I wouldn't list him in top 5 guitarists ever.

ricahrgl and crazy canuck - the question was asked who are the best guitarists ever. People are going to draw from the music they know, and maybe there are a lot of rock fans here. So jump down from the cultured high-horse and chill...it's just music, man...no need to call people red necks.

I was just messing around, man...still don't think there was any need to call people rednecks, and the remark was more for ricahrgl than you, dude...

Controversy

Holy Tonawanda,

I did not expect this much response.

I would rate Hendrix and Page as 1-2.

Page although drawing some neg remarks was great live.

I love Keith Richards, just for playing for all those years, especially sometimes in a state where the rest of could not stand up. I know he is not the best technically, but a real gift ear-pleasin wise???

Just saw that Rolling Stone is coming out this Friday with their list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Duane Allman -- Love the coda for "Layla"
3. B.B. King
4. Eric Clapton
5. Robert Johnson -- The "greats" were influenced by him.
6. Chuck Berry
7. Stevie Ray Vaughan
8. Ry Cooder
9. Jimmy Page
10. Keith Richards

Being raised during the 80s, I prefer speed.

Van Halen, Vai, Malmsteen.

For the "progressive person".

John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and Tony MacAlpine
