Its a shame the Americans are so self centered that they must pervert the truth in order to sell a movie

An honourable man. Too bad the Canadian media doesn't make more of his admission.

Its yet another in a long line of American war propaganda films.
Black Hawk Down
Argo
Zero Dark Thirty

It used to be that the US made more anti-war movies and tv, aka MASH. These days its all torture justifying, 24 hours, type pro bomb the world stuff.

Not surprised to hear Jimmy Carter telling the truth. That's why I hope Argo doesn't win best picture, it doesn't give credit to the right people, and I'm an American.

As to the issue of Canadian Passports for the six Americans, this is the information I got:

The Canadian government passed an extraordinary order-in-council in secret to allow foreign nationals to be issued "real" Canadian passports for humanitarian reasons. The passports were sent to Iran in a Canadian diplomatic pouch. There was no "film crew". The six "houseguests" were already in Iran as American consular officials. The Canadian plan was to take them through the airport as Canadian business people. This would have worked just fine since no Iranian officials ever asked anything about their occupations. The U.S. stalled and wanted the C.I.A. involved so sent in two agents. The Canadian government refused to issue Canadian passports to the C.I.A.agents. The six chose the "film crew" plan from three options given them. Flora McDonald thought it was a "silly" idea playing "Hollywood" and drawing attention to themselves. Luckily no Iranian officials cared about Canadians leaving the country. The six left along with other Canadians at the airport. This would have made for a less thrilling, but more accurate movie.

The reason that Argo is receiving accolades and Zero dark Thirty isn't is that it casts the USA in an unfavourable light. The item of the film that isn't being disputed is the willingness of the Bush/Obama Administrations of scuttling the hunt for bin Laden in favour of better protection for the homeland. This would have been an egregious mistake that would have led to another 9/11. The torture scenes in the film were actually tame, there was no actual waterboarding used in the film.

Flora McDonald may have been the Minister of External Affairs, but when it comes to having experience in successfully exfiltrating people from hostile environments I'd have to put my life with Tony Mendez.

There was a very good reason why no Iranian officials cared.

Worst one term President ever.

Made LBJ look like Lincoln.

It's no coincidence Reagan haters that the crisis abruptly ended on Jan 20 1981 after 444 days.

Reagan was ready to waste Abdul/Mohammed/Khaled and the rest of them cave dwellers.

Btw Canadian revisionist history? Arvo Arrow. 1812. The Iran Hostage Crisis. etc. (Thanks for nothing)
Whatever you say, Bonzo.

Carter should have sent in the Mounties...They always get their man. LOL.

Or the peacekeepers (like in Rwanda) would have done a great job as well.

The only silver lining was the formation of Seal Team 6 that followed the crisis.
Keep diggin', Bonzo.

Wow the chin strap on the ol' hockey helmet is a little tight today. Some one woke up on the wrong side of the gurney. Remeber you need to wake up on the right side.....that is where the care worker leaves your daily meds.

As for the hostage release as soon as Reagan hit office.....never hear of Iran-Contra?
