I thought he would have been older than that. He just seems like a guy who would have been playing in the 50s and had his music put out on those compilation 8tracks they used to sell at Woolco.

That said, I read he was worth over a billion dollars due to his entrepreneurial spirit. Opened up retirement homes, restaurant chains, merchandising, you name it.

I have been away from TERB the past few weeks, actually living a bit of the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle… and then I read that he passed.

We shared a few hobby’s and interests and so I had the extraordinary pleasure of being introduced and spending some social time with him in 2003, again in 2018 and again just before COVID.

I can personally attest to him being as wonderfully likeable, friendly and gracious as his public persona. Made me feel like his best friend the first time I met him in the BVI.

His music and attitude have been a foundation of my life since my teens. Many of his lesser known songs are truly part of the ‘soundtrack of my life’.

A mutual friend just told me he had been diagnosed with skin cancer a few years ago that progressed to lymphoma.

Anyways, I don’t think he wanted to do any resting, least of all ‘in peace’! He was always on the go! Flying, bonefishing, kitesurfing, SUP’ing and absolutely loved performing!

Ironically, I’ve never been to one of his concerts!

Having said that, one of his last performances was in Feb this year was a small, intimate Key West concert with lots of stories. It is being rebroadcast on Radio Margaritaville right now!

Every song is bringing a tear to my eyes. Happy and sad…

There will never be another Jimmy Buffett but he leaves so much love in his music for us all! Thanks Jimmy, I‘ll always love ya brother ! 💕

I’d love to hear everyone’s favourite Buffett songs AND why or the story behind it!
Here is on of mine from my favourite album “Barometer Soup”

It became really meaningful to me when I took my first magic mushroom trip a few years ago to reinvigorate my creativity. Listen to the lyrics!

Here is the backstory to the song

I can recall playing Margaritville loud in a high school stunt circa 1988.
One of my pals had an older brother who was a real early Parrothead.
On a cassette deck in a 4wd truck parked about half way up a big snow pile in early March after a really cold and snowy winter.
The snow pile in the school parking lot was bigger than it had been for many years.

We all had on long underwear and thermal tops under gym shirts and Hawaiian shorts.
Straw hats on over our toques. Sun glasses, and phony tropical drinks with paper umbrellas.
Sitting on folding lawn chairs atop the snow pile, stretched out as though we were tanning.

This was during lunch time when I was in grade 13.
The last school day before we started March Break..
As I type this I also can hear another classic tune in my head.
This time from The Eagles:
End of the Innocence.

I still have photos of that stunt in binders of my negatives down in the basement darkroom.

I must say that he was my all time music hero, grew up buying every album he made. Loved playing his songs while on road trips enjoying his laid back musical style. Aside from Margaritaville he wrote many great songs, My African Friend, Banana Republic, Come Monday, Changes in Attitude, Remittance Man, If the phone doesn't ring it's me, The Volcano Song, Fruitcakes, Boat Drinks, They Don't Dance Like Lola No More and so many more. You know that his fans were called parrot heads and many of them would dress up in coconut bras and grass skirts. I saw him live at Ontario Place and he was terrific. The smell of grass was everywhere. At intermission I went to a kiosk for some drinks and bumped into 3 men who were buying drinks wearing the outfits, one of which I knew as an executive of CIBC. He claimed he didn't know me. LOL. I will be listening to all my CDs of his all weekend. RIP JIMMY.

Hanging out on beach patios and on boat decks all that time would tend to raise the skin cancer risk......RIP Jimmy
