Jays have acquired relievers Anthony Bass and Zach Pop from Marlins in exchange for prospect Jordan Groshans reports say.

In a word, underwhelmed and disappointed. The players acquired are more of the same that we already have. Pop, Bass and Martin are not front-line pitchers and do not improve the bullpen appreciably. Merrifield is a player past thirty who is on a sharp downside in his career. DeJesus in merely a throw-in on the trade. Jays' management no doubt disappointed many fans by stating that they would get a quality left-handed bat, a good starter and one or two power relievers. They failed to get any of these.

I guess the question is are the drink (pop) and the fish (bass) better than Phelps, Richards and as good as limber(Cimber).

And where does Whitfiled slot in? Is this part of a Springer mystery?

Agree.

Of all the possible contenders, the Jays did the least.

Overall I think the moves were pretty good. I would have preferred a left handed bat but Merrifield is a very good player and can steal bases. Bass, Pop and White give us some quality bullpen depth, something we desperately needed. I think we're going to be a tough out come playoffs.

Most of his major league time has been at second base, and right field, but he can play all three outfield positions as well as first and third base. He'll be a guy who is everywhere, both starting and off the bench.

But who gets less playing time? Are the Jays saying that Espinal is not an all star and should be replaced? Less playing time for the left handed bat of Tapia or Biggio? Dropping Springer in the batting order or putting him on the DL?

In other words, I just don't get his need.

Here
I'll stick out my neck...

Mitch White... was not acquired... because he is... a marginal upgrade... for this team... this year...

His stats/record suggest... he has talent... he was available... and IMHO... he was acquired... as a candidate... a work project... for Pete Walker's... magic...

Check out the minor league stats of Nick Frasso, the guy the Jays gave up for Mitch White. Frasso's 23, and only in High A, but those numbers stand out, particularly for a starting pitcher:

I would not have made THIS trade.

Seriously??? "A" ball stats? You realize there's guys put stats like that up in "AAA" and when they get to the major's they get shelled right?
