Hmmmmm I wonder if he's recovered from his motorcycle injury. If he has he might be a steal. Don't know if he could start but having a guy with his potential coming off the bench might be good. Not ready to put a lot of hopes on a guy who's had to sit out 3 years recouping from a motorcycle crash.
I hope he has. I was looking foward to him being a star with DA BULLS and then he pulled that stupid stunt on the bike. I will say that Reisndorf was a good guy in that situation paying him the 3 mill when he didnt have to .

Good guy? Dumb. If Williams appreciated Reisndorf being a "good guy", he would return to Chicago and play for the league minimum... his way of paying the Bulls back.

O

Oil Please

I know hes dunking again which shows how far he has come. The Bulls would have no use for him they are stacked to the roof at his position.

...three guys and counting with essentially the same physical attributes and game.

Though for the league minimum....hmmm....

He was awesome at duke... Averaged 19.3 ppg and 6.0 apg, and 3.7rpg...
Not a true pass first point guard... but if he can come back from his injury even 90% that says alot and I think that he is only going to be 25 this year..

I am sure that an NBA team will take a chance on him, and I hope that it's the Raps...

As far as the minimum, he will get alot more than that, but I agree, if he was interested in paying back Chicago for gifting him $3M, he should try to sign with them...

I'd pass on him. He was brutal with Chicago before the injury. I just dont see him fitting in the pro style. Raps need a traditional creative guard who can hit 3's consistently. Not a penetrator. With Bosh & Charlie V scoring down low, we need consistent outside scoring.

Good points... but what are your alternatives?? I would rather have a penetrator who can take the ball to the hoop and create opportunities for his teammates than what we have now... which is nothing...

Unfortunately there arent any great options. Colangelo has his work cut out for him. I suspect a trade is in the works. Too bad Chris Paul was not available this year. Williams will penetrate to score, not pass. We need a guy who can break a defence down with penetration and hit the open man. Especially if we take this Italian.

I just hope Mike James is history. Horrible late game decisions and bad defence. He could score but it didnt translate to wins which is the bottom line.

God I hope we don't take Barganini... he may turn out to be a great player, but I don't like his chances. We also don't need a finesse big man, we need a banger, rebounder, defensive stopper... I hope that in the 3 years off, Williams has recognized what will make him valuable in the NBA as a point guard otherwise he will become the next Mike James..

then again, I had believed that Mike James was coming to Toronto to play PG.. and that the Raps would have let him know what the expectation of that position is.. but I don't think him or Sam Mitchell received the memo...

Depending on what Williams accepts, I like him over Derrick Martin as a backup. Honestly, there will be no teams out there who take a chance on him as a starter or even a 2nd PG backup at this point.
I don't know about being starter... although he has the potential if he is fully recovered. If they are going to take a chance on someone I would rather it be someone like JWilliams than Araujo or even Loren Woods and who the hell is Andre Barrett... Derrick Martin is 35 years old and has not been a full time starter for years... Why do we need a guy like that???

I agree drop martin and pick up williams at the very least jw would be a potential 2nd or 3rd pg. But who knows maybe in time he'll prove himself to be valuable. I think he's worth the gamble.

He's been working out on his own and if he's waited 3 years I can't see him as the type who's trying to rush the comeback so I hope he surprises us all.

At worst he fills martin's spot at best he will be a poor man's mike james.

I think that his skill set was much better James, and his potential was much higher. So I think that the ceiling is much higher for Williams...

Williams has been out of the game for a long time, but I think that it speaks volume about his character that he has spent that time working himself back into shape to play again in the NBA. While I don't know alot about what he has done since getting hurt, and I only know what I have read in the papers, he seems to have matured a great deal. Just the fact that he has gotten himself into condition that teams will even give him the opportunity to work out for them, is a pretty big step... If he shows that type of dedication and hard work in the next year or two, why should he not reach his potential of a #2 overall pick...

Good thing Babcock isn't still around. He likely would have traded the No. 1 pick to get Williams.

This would've been impossible as Jay Williams is a free agent not on a team...

Jason Williams was one of the most poorly projected prospects of this generation. It was not that he simply did not adapt. His lack of + talent in certain areas was clearly evident throughout his first season. I am not talking about adapting or rookie struggles... his base talents were clearly exaggerated at Duke.

We are not talking mega talent. We are talking about a player who had been projected to be slightly above average talent, before losing some atheltic ability.

Pass... there is a reason NBA teams are not lining up for his services.

Hak... that's so easy to say given that he only played one year in the league on a crappy Chicago Team as a rookie... He averaged 9.5 ppg (5th) and
4.7 apg (2nd). He started 54 games, but had lost his starting job by the end of the year. That year, the Bulls won 30 games.

I would hardly think that would qualify his 1st year as a complete bust...

How much worse could he be than Calderon, Derrick Martin and whoever else we had on the point this year... Finally, if other GMs are not willing to take a chance, you sign him to a low contract and take a chance. If he can't cut it in training camp, then you have nothing to lose...

Hak... you must be really be Babcock.... you would give Alonzo $10million to stay at home, but it would be too much to sign a guy like Williams to a NBA minimum.....
