I notice that the politics and especially International Forum have been a bit quiet the last couple of days. There doesn't seem to be as much ill will being posted. Accusations, lies, acrimony and name calling have been minimized. Am I correct and if so are there any theories as to why? Are we missing someone/something that is causing a lull in the action?

perhaps the left is still shell shocked by the size of Trumps victory
and the right is shell shocked by the size of Trumps 25% tariff threat.

Brian Lilley (Sun columnist) quoted Trump as saying "you have to fix your boarders or face 25% tariffs"
if true, i suggest we fix the boarders

Looks like your peace shall be short lived Shack. I just checked. :)
It's beyond my control. But it is a measure of when certain factions of hate speech are silenced, even if temporarily. But it does reinforce what I've been saying all along about frank. He's a shit disturber who does nothing but create troubles for the mods. He provides zero positive impact to the board.

Trump couldn't build a wall to keep Mexicans out in his first term and the US can't keep drugs out of their own prisons which is supposed to be a very secure place. It is an unreasonable request

Even if someone we could stop all fent from coming from Mexico and Canada, it will just come in through the ports from China or elsewhere.

It is impossible to stop. It's an impossible request. He is just a child spouting off shit from the top of his head and the results of this economically will be quite severe. Even beyond the tariffs, what are they going to do, except every single shipment container to be inspected before it is sent over? That will kill trade all together. Pity there are no adults in the room to smack some sense into him, and even if there were it seems he won't listen to them anyways. It used to be the right had a fucking clue about the importance of trade, but they have a new cult leader and just forgot all the economics they used to know.

But then we learned absolutely nothing from alcohol prohibition, but hey, political logic. Something must be done. This is something, this must be done.

As for keeping people out. is Canada really an issue there? I mean enough of one to throw a wrecking ball into the mix?

It plays well to idiots who know absolutely nothing I guess and you can never ever go wrong catering to that sort. Left or right.

I think this whole 25% tariff is a red herring. I highly doubt Trump will impose these as his first official act in office....nor even his 17th. I think it was a message he is feeding his base, and blaming immigration and drugs....two things that are difficult to control/stop....or even have accurate figures. I mean, we know drugs come into the US (and Canada) in multiple ways. Hidden in a dude's trunk as he crosses the border, hidden in a container on a huge ship, or even in air cargo. We probably don't know how much actually comes in a on a daily basis, we only celebrate when they make a bust/discovery....and frequently that's discovered via random searches. The sheer volume of cargo imported on a daily basis is staggering, and it would be impossible to search them all.

It could be that for every one shipment that is found, 17 slip into the country. But we really have no way of knowing.

So, bottomline, I think Trump will drop this idea or make some weird claim for victory and drop it. Maybe Canada and Mexico pay lip service, saying they will work harder or some bullshit....

Seems like FF is MIA, pehaps banned for a few days? Who knows lol
Phew! He's still around. I saw him post on this thread.

Management would never ban the Frankster. He drives far, far, FAR too much posting traffic and keeps guys here through his *cough* 'engaging' posts.

1: Let us hope so, I mean on the plus side, he is a pathological liar.

OTOH red herring, what, will he expect us to go into the forest and cut down the biggest tree with it. What's next. Get him a shrubbery. When will it stop.

Well, it didn't long for me to cross that one off the list.

It seems that you just can't help yourself, can you Geno?
TO be fair, he has a point. Nothing wrong with an accusation if it's true.

I didn't catch the reference at first. To be fair, it wasn't a Monty Python, Simpsons, Kids in the Hall etc reference but you know all those pagers who were killed by pagers

As a fan of Jon Lajoie to Jimmy Carr to the Diceman I don't get offended easily, I can see it being pushing the line... on a personal level.

Oh and for making me take "his" side

You accused him of hate mongering. I made that point that while you were gone, there were very few accusations being thrown around. Within minutes of your return, the accusations start again.
I didn't make the pager comment, shazi.
Why are you accusing me?

You think its normal to make jokes about mossad killing board members?
