Wow you guys must be so proud of a 1-0 over Australia. Italy didn't score even with 11 men!
Hey gambling degenerate, you really have a hard-on for Italians huh? You love stalking every thread about this game in particular and acting as idiotic as ever I see, LOL!

There's still hope for (well maybe not in your case) degenerate gamblers like you who live in denial and try to make that fast buck.

Follow the link, dink, LOL........

Notes from previous world cups & Penalty Kicks

For all those crying Fowl..hey..give it some slack !!

Lets not forget World Cup USA 1994 when Italy tied Brazil in the Final and only lost the world cup on penalty kicks. This was not a quarter final or semi, or round of 16, it was THE FINAL. All those crying fowl now, where were you then?..Gee. It was 0-0 until Brazil won on a penalty kick shootout..a poor way to award the world cup..but Brazilians did not feel ashamed to accept the world cup trophy and the title of world champions.

Or what about World Cup 90 in Italy ...Germany vs Argentina,,same thing 0-0 to last minute, and then Germany is awarded a penalty kick on Argentina. The germans scored and Won the World Cup 90 in Italy..I bet the germaniacs here are not saying Germany did not deserve to win the 90 world cup. Germany gladly accepted the World cup and title of world champions without much fuss..very Brave.

It was a second round game

The fact is Australia played italy with a 1 man advantage and still couldn't put in 1 goal. They committed a fowl right in front of the net..they deserved a penalty kick...they were playing rugby not soccer..and in the end the better team won. However, despite who won this game, I don't see either of these teams as World champions for 2006.

SA
This proves my point exactly. When Brazil won the cup in '94 nobody said they got lucky. More like, they deserved the cup and they were expected to win,and all that other bs. On the other hand, heavan forbid that Italy wins a game on a penalty kick. No f'n way! They got ''lucky'',right? Maybe Brazil should lose a game on a penalty kick, now that would be sweet justice. Hopefully,France can repeat what they did to Brazil in the '98 final and then we don't have to hear about them for the rest of the tournament.

From the reactions of the Italians here, no one is willing to admit the Azzuri played like crap. Oh my, the Italians played with 10 men....how many defenders? They subbed Toni for another defender so that did not alter their tactics at the back, it just changed their attacking formation. Plus you guys who say oh Australia couldn't get a goal vs Italy make it sound Australia is a powerhouse. Also, Australia were not playing Rugby style, they played a far more physical battle and it has worked against many teams. What you think this game isn't rough? You think Gattuso is a soft tackler?
I just don't understand how Italian fans cannot admit that their team played awful in that match.

Well I for one will admit that Italy up to now has been playing lousy soccer..Italy will play better as the opposition gets better. The important thing to note is , that as bad as they have been playing..they are still in the quarters..and will most likely get to the Semis...

The Brazil Problem...Italy has a poor habit of getting Zapped by Brazil, however, only 1 time did a south american team win the cup in Europe..so statistically, the odds of Brazil winning the cup are against them. Also 1/3 of world cups have been won on home soil...and Germany has been playing Beautifully...all in an amazing U-Boat style.

How I see it..it will be Italy or Germany for 2006.

Interesting Fun facts: There are over 25 millions people in Brazil of Italian origin, almost the entire population of Canada.

SA
i agree, Italy vs Germany Final, if you look at it, they are the only 2 teams remaining playing with emotion. France perhaps lost their steam vs Spain, they played due to the racist comments by Aragones but now they face a Brazil squad who are going to play for revenge. Germans are on adrenaline due to home crowd, while the Azzuri, i'm still waiting on them to destroy someone and really prove their worth, but perhaps this has been their gameplan, just win and when the moment is right just go for it. The scandal in Serie A and the attempted suicide of Pessotto may just be enough of a rally call for the Azzuri.

woops did not read it correctly. Yes the Semi's, which is a pity cause an Italy/Germany final would of been very nice.

Would Italy be crying foul if Australia was awarded a penalty kick with 12 seconds to go?

You North Americans just don't get the sport. It's a multi-discipline game with "diving" being an integral component. Those teams that can't master the dive will never make it. Italy is a master:D

To be fair any team would be crying foul if the other team was awarded a penalty kick with 12 seconds to go.

Lets be fair now. You comment is not directed to either the Italian team or the country.

It's directed to some misguided fans who have managed to tee people off. Isn't that so?

I persay have an issue with some Brazilian fans, or so that what they call themselves. Although these people have never been to Brazil, feel they have some claim because the are from Portugal and Brazil was once upon a century a Portuguese colony, they feel its their team.

Its easy to back a winner and courage to back a loser.

But I respect both the Brazilian and Portugese Soccer teams (well I thought Portugal played kind of dirty against Holland but they have been great to watch until then) and I don't let their fans influence my opnions of team and of their chances.

Hey Sneak!! First off; Brazil had a tough go with Australia only beating them 1-0. I think you need to realize one thing; there are no more superior countries as was the case maybe 12 years ago. Most footballers play there soccer in big markets these days and draws most countries comparable because the competion has just gotten better. As far as Italy playing poorly. You are so wrong. They were wrongly red carded and defended and attacked better than Australia did. They created better scoring chances; had Luca Toni converted on at least 3 of his good chances; we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I think you have to give all the teams in the quarters kudos as they are through!!! As the Brazilian coach said; everyone wants to see pretty soccer; but people only rember who the champions are!!! Good luck to all; I would love to see a Brazil Italy final. Whatever happens happens; I'm just having a ball enjoying all the games and so should you Sneak!!
Ok, the red card was a joke, no denying that but my point is why do people laugh at Australia not winning with 11 men. Now you are praising Italy for playing good???? Ok if they were playing good why did it take them 92mins and 15seconds to get a bloody goal? Yes Toni had "Chances" but he convert them? Nope. You could have a milllion shots but if you don't get one shot in whats the point? All they really need is one goal right? Schwarzer made great saves on Toni and Gilardino, but that is not the Italy team we all know, they played like crap. If you seriously think they played good, than lets how they would last against a top calibre team like that. Someone mentioned here how Italy likes to play down to the level of their competition and step up to the big boys. Well there you go, that's how they played, they played down to Australia's level when they should of won convincingly. So do you seriously think they played good? I am enjoying this WC, apart from the poor referreing and the ridiculous acting.

I enjoy the world cup. I am not a football/soccer fan. I have no rooting interest. I will watch just because of the spectacle of it. However, this time around I can say that it has been quite a disappointment. The should call it the World Diving Cup. Now I dont know if its because the officiating is that bad and the players are just doing it to get calls or what. But for the most part, the games from a very novice causal fan have been unwatchable

I agree with you.

Hang in there though. The play usually gets better as the competition gets closer in the end.

If that was lucky, than i'd say 95% of the goals scored in the WC tourney were 'lucky' goals. the other 5% being all penalty kicks against unformidable opponents.

Italy deserved their win. I can't say Germany sucks... they played very competitive. their defense is solid and are quite strong in goal. however, Italy's defense outplayed the Germs and left Germany to too few chances. Possession was pretty equal... a statistical noncomparative. Must be incredible pressure to play as a host team. I commend them, for sure! hat's off to both teams.
