Isn't the NHL Great?

I know that all of Leafs Nation (Losers Nation?) out there will hate this.

What the hell gives with the idiots that run the NHL. The Maple Leafs have played 28 games. They have won 13 and lost 15. In any other league, they would have 26 points. But they have 31.

Only the NHL (and CFL) rewards failure with a point. And, yes, I know. The Leafs will probably need every one of those "failure" points to make the playoffs.

What a bush organization, or as Mario Lemieux once said, what a garage league. Is it any wonder that the NHL is so ridiculed in the USA?

You've perhaps overlooked one thing, in the other major sports, they dont use a point system, its all winning percentage. I dont think its that big of a deal.

Easy. Easy. Easy. Take it easy on Leaf fans. They have so little to cheer about in life. I mean most Leaf fans actually think that Leaf fans made up the "GO insert team name here GO" cheer heard around the world. Besides the Leafs are about to go on their annual holiday losing streak. Leaf fans will be beside themselves so go easy on them. It's a tough time of year.

How come everyone makes fun of us leaf fans so much???? Besides the fact that the people who make fun of us support another team.

We cant be any worse than Montreal Fans Chanting a Soccer cheer at a hockey game.

And about the points for losing a game its because the game is tied after regulation. When the NHL did not have overtime they couldn't just not count the games that were ties so they had to issue a point to each team. So then if you lose in overtime or now a shoot out then you still get that 1 point you have earned in regulation.

Go to a game in Montreal. The experience is much better than at the Mausoleum known as the ACC.

A point for LOSING in overtime? What a stupid idea. Play the game until a conclusion is reached. This isn't soccer.

Leafs Nation should be watching for the Senators to go blowing past them, before Christmas.

I've been to games in Montreal, Vancouver, Buffalo, and here in Toronto and the experience has been the same. Only games where there was any type of rivalry or emotion were exciting. I guess that's why the Nhl is having so many divisional and conference games.

Those points for an overtime loss are not as stupid as 2 points for a shoot out win. Buffalo and Montreal are fortunate for the 5 and 4 "coin flip" points, while Toronto has 4 shoot out losses. One thing we agree on is they should play until there is a "real" winner. Thus is life in the new Nhl.

Go Leafs Go.

Once the leafs are on a loosing streak everyone gets to say "HAHAHA I TOLD YOU!"
But when they start winning again (and i know people will say they wont) people will be saying nothing bad about the leafs.

The teams should play until there is a real winner but that doesnt sell tickets in the states. And the American head of the NHL is the Douche incharge.

I say Bobby Orr for head of NHL.

Of course fans of other hockey clubs redicule us Leaf fans; upper management has been shitting on us for over forty years - and we come back for more. If Brian Colangelo can be given carte blanche to direct the Raptors as he sees fit why wasn't JFJ given the same opportunity?

As for Senators fans; Ottawa is one of the bleakest most miserable of places in all the world. Of course they need a winning hockey club - there's nothing else to do there except watching the suicide rate spike when the Sens get eliminated in the spring. Boooyaaa!!!!

If Eugene Melnyk had the opportunity to own the Leafs how long would keep the Senators.

Leafs fans are some of the most passinote sports fans I have every seen. I have been to games in the ACC and the fans are where always into it. I was sitting next to a little kid and she was swearing at the refs and everything. It was a blast. Leafs fans love there team win or lose.

As for points in overtime and shootouts ..who cares as long your team wins.

And you think this was a good thing? Seems like this scene would be the epitome of what is wrong with Leaf fans not the other way around. Little kids swearing at referees? Yeah, right. Great.

Back in the good 'ole days (up until the late 70's/early 80's) they always awarded one point for a tie (and two points for a win). Except in playoff situations, ties have always been part of hockey.

The problem was that teams (especially road teams) would be tied late in games and play boring dump and chase hockey.

So they added overtime and eventually the shootout and rewarded the team that won in OT by giving them an extra point without penalizing either team for playing to a tie.

I know that it's a glass half empty/half full discussion, but don't think of it as rewarding the team that lost in OT/SO with a point. Think of it as rewarding the team that one. Back in the original rules of hockey, they would have never recieved that point.
