..even though it strains the imagination , I do believe Iran or Syria will be attacked.
.1) Why do you think they wanted Bolton there.
.2) Bush's 5 week "working vacation"
They wanted him out of Washington, probably so the idiot wouldnt blab.
Question: How important must a guy to be, to have had 3 heart attacks. Yet not a mention of him stepping dopwn.
Bush is a mouthpiece, Cheeney calls the big shots, and he seems to have dissappered recently.
Not doubt planning, Pax Americana.

Most importantly, he wouldn't get the war powers
authorization by the US Senate as he did after
9/11. The US still has a representative form of
government. Bush isn't a dictator. He has limited
authority when it comes to declaring war.

Your fears are just that, fears. It is a virtual political
impossibility Bush would get the support of the American
public.
Even after the next 9/11? I doubt it. Bush's ratings would rise dramatically and the media and opposition would back him not wanting to appear "soft on terror." Some uninvolved country would be made to pay the price for the next terrorist attack, just as Iraq did. History has an uncanny tendency to repeat itself.

Bush might get a temporary boost in the polls after another such attack, but it would be short lived. There is no way this would be good for him in the long run. They're going to have to thwart a major attack or catch OBL before Bush's numbers on his war on terror improve.

....DQ I hope your right, and like I said it certainly strains the imagination to think they would get the support of the American people. However "incidents" can always be manufactured.
Its obvious by those 14 bases they intend to stay awhile. With Iran and Syria supporting the insurgency, or by allowing arms from others to flow to the insurgency through their countries.
The US will never be able to control Iraq.
They may feel like they have no choice, like in Nam every decision seems just to lead to escalation and more force.
