Friends of embattled porn legend Ron Jeremy say the star’s sex assault trial has been delayed because he’s battling dementia.
Jeremy, 69, faces 34 counts of rape and sexual assault involving 23 different women over a 16-year stretch.
But now, unseen footage from a documentary about the actor known as “The Hedgehog” reveals that Jeremy “is showing signs of dementia.”
Jeremy remains caged in the Los Angeles County Jail.
With the dementia revelations, the judge suspended his trial due to concerns about his competence and ability to assist in his defense.
His fall and decline of his mental faculties were revealed in the two-part Channel 4 documentary Porn King: The Rise and Fall of Ron Jeremy that aired last week.
According to Metro, Jeremy is seen to struggle writing his autograph for fans. He is also filmed falling asleep during interviews and myriad public appearances.
At one point he asks his handlers how to spell his name.
Porn star Kianna Bradley, a close Jeremy friend, said she began noticing the tell-tale signs of dementia before the documentary began filming.
She said: “He won’t remember who I am until I explain it to him.”
One porn actress, Alana Evans, said Jeremy’s mental deterioration has been marked over the last few years making his behaviour worse.
“Ron was totally senile. As Ron’s health, his cleanliness, his mental state deteriorated – his behaviour got worse,” Evans told the doc. “Ron definitely got worse with his offending over time.”
In addition to Jeremy’s rumoured dementia, the documentary also chronicles his alleged long history as a sexual predator. One alleged victim believes Jeremy doesn’t remember a lot of the things he’s done.
Jeremy — a former New York City special needs teacher — made his X-rated debut in 1979. He has appeared in more than 2,000 porn videos and holds the Guinness Book of World Record title for Most Appearances in Adult Films.
He has continually denied any wrongdoing.
