There's a long history of the IRS being used to intimidate political opponents. So I think we can say we are not dealing with the highest integrity institution. I am also careful not to presume the Biden White House instructed the IRS to pay Matt Taibbi a visit.

I know you probably don't like cynical political analysis directed at a progressive administration, but try this. You're a low level IRS agent who is a Democrat. The Biden Administration just allocated $80 billion of additional funding to your agency. There will be new hires, promotions and perhaps higher salary levels for the current rank and file. You say to yourself "Hey, they're going after my man Joe and his son Hunter". You see Matt Taibbi is caught up in this shitshow and he's not on the side of the Bidens. You think "I got some of Taibbi's files on my desk. Let's pay the man a visit."
I just repeat the post that you responded to. Taibbi ain't important enough. And the ploy is too obvious.

It's more like little wanker Taibbi trying to pretend that he's big league enough for anyone to bother to intimidate.

ROTFLMFAO!!! Seriously, you got to wean yourself off MSNBC. Maybe you'll hear about the Twitter Files and other scandals Taibbi exposed.
Those were nothing burgers and were solely done to stroke Elon's and his right wing entourage's ego. Right wingers were acting like Taibbi was Assange or something. In reality it was just a bunch of curated information to provide a few talking points to righties and amounted to nothing in the end.

It all conjures a lot of emotions with liberals. It distracts from the central tenet that Trump is a threat to democracy.

Others who have a deeper Marxist, anti-American vein running through them, view democracy and freedom of speech as simply a means to an end.
To call those who are seeking to limit freedom of expression "liberals" is sacrilegious. The freedom of expression is the very foundation of liberalism. Them present "liberals " are just a bunch of fascists.

Throttling free speech is a "nothing burger" to you? Maybe you need to reevaluate your values.

Values reevaluated and still sticking to my statement. They weren't throttling free speech and were just labeling misinformation. Infact the Republicans were also asking to have a few tweets removed.

Like I said, it's fairly black & white. The IRS didn't visit him. Or they had a some really incredible and unusual reason to go to his house.

Sadly if fifty years ago the IRS paid a journalist a visit, the entire journalistic community would be up in arms regardless of their political leanings.

This thread is another example of social media mish-mash. Bash the target for his reporting. Imply he's lying. Tell us he's not worth the government's time. Explain how it's perfectly normal for the IRS to make house calls and many times they are just trying to help. 🤮

It's a nice story.
Of course, in your story, there's a low level guy pulling shit - no actual conspiracy or deep state attacking Taibbi, and nothing of note.

Unless you think this one guy goes on a vendetta to make up tax crimes Taibbi has done?

Oh wait, Taibbi said that this person came and told him someone had possibly stolen Taibbi's identity, so this is actually a case of the IRS going out of its way to help Matt, isn't it?

Boy for a guy Val thinks is inconsequential he sure is riled up about him, let alone Assange.

You might think they are actually a lot more relevant and on the truth than Val would care to admit.

Aww Butler, trying so hard.

This isn't me riled up.

You've seen me riled up in other threads.

This is me laughing at this Taibbi story.

Look, if he ever produces evidence or follow up, we can talk.
But Ockham's Razor is this is just him doing his bullshit for clicks.
Until I have a reason to think otherwise, I will stick with the more simple and logical explanation.

As I said, it's black and white. If the IRS says it never happened or a low level agent is disciplined, this could be resolved quickly. Silence on the matter will make it fester. I always said it could be a low level bureaucrat acting independently, but if the IRS circles the wagon around them.......bigger mistake.

The problem with your argument is that it simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of political patronage. Is anyone foolish enough to believe Washington bureaucrats are politically benign? They demonstrate they aren't all the time.

Oh wait, Taibbi said that this person came and told him someone had possibly stolen Taibbi's identity, so this is actually a case of the IRS going out of its way to help Matt, isn't it?
This is one of the silliest arguments I have seen an intelligent person make on social media. I would avoid working arguments backwards in such a hard fashion. Wyatt's Razor: If the IRS did visit Matt Taibbi, they most likely had no good reason to come to his house.

Oh dear. Here we go again in Rightie Outrage Fantasy World.

Explain your understanding of "Marxism" to us. It seems to be a close copy of Tucker Carlson's definition, despite the claim that you never watch Fox News.

And no one thinks Trump is a "threat to democracy". That would require him to be somewhat competent, instead of a senile, low IQ performing orang-utan. He would certainly like to be king. So would my ex girlfriend's poodle. IMO, the poodle has a better shot, just based on comparative intellect.

In my view, Marxism is the idealistic and paramount focus on equity particularly in economic outcomes. I understand it's appeal and it should be expected that it arouses emotions in those who share these beliefs. (This is not to say you are a Marxist.)

I would give up this obsession that conservatives can't be thinking without the guiding light of Fox News. This website is literally the only place where I see Tucker Carlson's face.

Didn't you read the threads explicitly calling January 6 a coup attempt? I think some here even suggested it was close to succeeding or it would trigger a civil war. When people try to make a case here, they inadvertently go to extremes. One of those extremes was Trump was trying to takeover the Federal government in January, 2021.

It's good to know that you don't believe Trump is a threat to our democracy. I agree 100%.

What I just wrote in the Trump thread. Most civil servants in Tory Ontario now have "pronouns" in their email sigs. The Maple Leafs and Raptors both include trans people in their "inclusion" PR material. "Woke" has nothing to do with "Marxism", except in your mind and those of your rightie buddies. Unless you consider Austen Matthews a KGB agent.

The Law Society of Ontario also has a "inclusivity" section which advocates for gays, natives, blacks and - I would guess - trans people. The Law Society is not a Marxist institution, Earp.

People like you throw in the term "Marxist" randomly and incorrectly because they think it's pejorative. It goes along with Boebert and Marge calling Dem policies on gun control and inclusion "Marxist extremism". It's garbage thinking. It's dumb. And it's intellectual junk food directed at half-wits. You can do better than this.

One of the tactics that the Bullshit Right engages in is vilification. You slander something enough and you can prevent real debate, because the conversation becomes a slanging contest.

I expect you to stop doing this stuff.

I do think that Trump attempted to overthrow the US government on 6 January. But his abilities lie at the same level as my ex girlfriend's poodle. Neither can competently overthrow a regime. One chews dog treats. The other jigs to "Macho Man" and leads a chorus of "Lock Hillary up!"
