IPOD: Music transfer?

This is probably in the wrong forum, but i figured it would get more views here.

I recently downloaded about 5g of music from my friends laptop (he has a nano) onto my 30g video. Now i want to put all the music i took from his laptop onto my PC. I cant figure out how to do this, if it can be done at all. Either that or im an idiot.

Can someone please tell me how i can transfer the music from my ipod onto my pc.

First off, for music files, the iPods are designed for one-way transfer -- from a computer to the iPod. This was done to prevent wholesale swapping of music collections. When set to work as an MP3 player, the iPod will let you upload from a computer to the Pod, or delete from the Pod, but not go from the Pod to a computer.

At least, that's what Apple will have you believe. There are a number of programs that will get around this quite easily. A google search for a utility called CopyPod should help.

There are many others out there, that's just the one I know.

Assuming you transferred all of the music through iTunes...

Connect your iPod to the computer
Instead of going in through iTunes, open up Windows Explorer
The iPod will show up as a drive
Open up the iPod in Windows Explorer. I can't remember what folder the music is in, but if go through the folders you should find the music (just make sure that you can view hidden folders)
A word to the wise, the file names will have changed. I think the iPod stores them in individual folders according to artist and the file names are song names

The easiest way of doing this (and I've done this a number of times with my iPod) is to treat your iPod as an external hard drive. Connect it to your computer and then drag and drop files into it. You won't be able to play the files on your iPod, but it's easier to do file transfers

Thanks for the info and pm's guys. I do like the format of COPYPOD and have used the trial version. However, i am having trouble finding a 'free' full version of Copypod. I have tried bittorrents but tehre are no seeds/leeches on the several copies i have tried to load.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a 'free' full version of COPYPOD.

You can use your IPOD as a USB Flash Drive with some modifications.

I have tried since i read your post (i even sent you a pm SB. BUt i cant for the life of me come across a free version. I must be retarded.

I have the 30g Ipod Video. I used Anapod for copying files to and from between the iPod and my PC. You select the files and then right click to use the "Transfer to PC" .

You and download the trial version to try it out. You should be able to copy all those file to pc within the trial period.

You cannot use window explorer to look for any file in the iPOD, because it has its own (or Apple's) fille system. The same way if you bought a use data cable for you cellpone and hook it up to your PC, you just anint gonna see anything in it. For cellphone hack , most people use a freeware bitpim.
