I've always been mildly aroused at Apple's Iphone and resolved it will be my next phone.

The new Blackberry Storm seems like the first real competition to the Iphone.

Opinions?

It really depends what you like. The iPhone is very slick but no where near as good at messaging and emails. The blackberry is very good at emails and messages but not as good with music and the web.

Both are expensive. As Eldoguy says the replacement battery and memory upgrade issues are a real drawback to using the iPhone. It's battery life is now where near as long as they advertise and there is no way to upgrade the storage space. 8, 16 or 32 Gigs max is no where near enough if you want to put movies on and music. At least with the BB, you and load up cheap memory cards and slot them in easily.

I have both (BB Curve work and iPhone play) and find myself fustrated with the iPhone. It's Bluetooth capabilities are crippled and the keyboard is terrible to type on unless you have small skeleton like fingers.

That being said to each his own!

Either way be prepared to pay through the nose on a 3 year contract!

Also one caveat... Make sure that if you travel outside of North America which includes the Carribean get a GSM Quad band phone (Rogers and Fido) or you may find yourself S.O.L.

I've had an Iphone for a few months and while they are slick, and the integrated ipod is great, so is the virtual keyboard ( better imho that the blackberries) as a cell phone they suck. Either Rogers or Apple have some type of problem, software, hardware or the network as many calls are missed, dropped or have to be dialed repeatedly before they go through.

In a little under 4 months I am on my 3rd phone. Whereas with Blackberrys I have never had these types of problem

Storm is CDMA phone, isnt it?

Do you think rogers or Fido will launch the GSM version one?

It's a CDMA world phone, which means it can also do GSM, as it's sold by Orange in the UK. I don't doubt that there will be one available through Rogers (no bb's by Fido), but judging from previous exclusive release contracts, it won't be offered till at least feb.

As for the negative reviews of the Iphone, don't say I didn't tell you so. It's not a device that is particularly suited for business use. It's a high end personal phone. If that's what you want, plus being trendy, then get the Iphone. If performance, security, and functionality is your thing, go Blackberry.

I agree with you as far as BB vs Iphone only one problem with the Storm - when it comes out there will be no WiFi and after having it on the iPhone you get spoiled - I don't think it will stop me from going back to BBerry as there are so many more positives than negatives that I have to.

I dont understand why they dont make Storm with Wifi capability. Bold has Wifi.
If they want Storm to compete with Iphone(which what they intend to do), they should have made Storm with Wifi.

Wifi on a Blackberry device is weird. Since the messaging part has to go through BIS or a BES, it still has to connect to the cellular network. The only thing you can really do wifi on a BB is surfing.
