iPhone 4S demand continues to overwhelm US carriers a month after launch

Wireless carriers in the U.S. continue to struggle to keep up with demand for Apple's iPhone 4S more than a month after the handset first went on sale.

Continued long waits for the iPhone 4S were profiled on Thursday by The Wall Street Journal, which found that Verizon Wireless customers must still wait more than three weeks for their purchase to arrive. It's an average 21-day wait at AT&T as well, where Sprint customers must wait up to 14 days.

The report is yet another to refute previous claims that Apple was experiencing slower-than-expected demand for the iPhone 4S. When those rumors first cropped up out of the Far East earlier this month, analysts on Wall Street were quick to refute the claims, but Apple's stock price was still affected.

The Journal characterized the initial sales of the iPhone 4S as quite the opposite of the rumors, calling them "unexpectedly strong" in the first month.

"We are having some supply issues in the sense that demand's huge," AT&T president of emerging devices Glenn Lurie reportedly said. "We have had just record-breaking sales on it."

Similar comments came from Verizon, where a spokeswoman said that demand "continues to build" for the iPhone 4S. The nation's largest wireless carrier said it is working with Apple to increase inventory.

It's been a similar story in Apple's own retail stores, as one survey conducted earlier this month found that 85 percent of the company's locations were seeing daily stock-outs of the iPhone 4S. And Apple is in the midst of its fastest worldwide roll-out ever, with strong international demand as well.

The record setting pace of the iPhone 4S continues after Apple sold more than 4 million of the handset in its first weekend. That more than doubled the company's previous record of 1.7 million iPhone 4 units in the summer of 2010.

During his company's quarterly earnings conference call in October, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said he's confident that a new record for iPhone swill be set in the current holiday quarter. The previous record came in the company's June quarter of this year, when Apple moved 20.34 million total iPhones.

HOWEVER, I certainly hope people are buying into the Apple/iPhone hype, Apple certainly has pumped hundreds of millions into marketing it heavily.
But, if you show people this simple diagram and what they're not getting, errr, getting...

(added the last two)

I'd be willing to bet they may just choose otherwise.

You ramble on about the popularity of the iPhone, like Faux News brags about its ratings.
Remember, Faux News, lies and distorts the news and facts and has great eye candy - gorgoeus women on the show, no doubt about it.
Doesn't necessarily mean it's true or good journalism.

I think I told you before, crack is incredibly popular, but it doesn't necessarily make it a wise choice either..................although it is a billion+ dollar industry.

Yeah, this has been discussed at length, Android has taken the Symbian, RIM and Microsoft Share as the market has exploded. Apple has taken the high end users and the lions share of the profits (and has the best selling phone). These are all facts.

These are facts too.

Anyone who gets an iPhone is just buying into a heavily marketed, somewhat limited Apple phone.

Nothing to brag about, other than they have strong market share and fuckloads of money.
Kinda like Faux News bragging about its ratings, yet everyone with half a brain knows it's not exactly quality news. lol

Oh you mean like you're incessant posts about Apple's iPhone market share? Or how much money they have?
Nothing in regards to the comparisons of the stone, iPhone and Galaxy? Didn't think so.
Enjoy your iPhone's success, I'll just enjoy the Galaxy and its great flexibility. :)

But if you do have anything to say in regards to the diagram, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It's just too bad it doesn't have a microSD slot, good solid mutli-tasking, drag'n'drop (files) and customization.
Otherwise, I do have to say, it's beautiful on the outside.
You really should gave the Galaxy S2 a shot, check it out in store, I'm incredibly tempted to get it, but don't NEED it...think I'll wait another year for a kick ass upgrade.

Had a friend that that converted to the Galaxy (and, yes, I tried to persuade her not to).
Suffice to say, she's miserable with the new phone (and trapped with a contract). Live and learn.

What's her issue? No Apple logo? lol
Plenty of stickers can be bought if she likes.

Just do a search on eBay. :)

What did she have problems with? Customizing her phone? Putting music on it?

He won't answer your post Cobster because he made it all up.

Ha! What's funny is that Apple dropped the ball concerning screen size. Now they're FORCED to increase the screen size with the next iphone 5 or else be left in the dust design-wise compared to their competitors. Apple's increased phone screen size will be a 'ho hum' advancement since with the other companies it will be.. 'Been there done that." :eyebrows:

I find that VERY hard to believe. As an owner of both iPhone 4 and Galaxy S2 there really isn't much of a comparison. iPhone was a great phone in it's prime but it can't be compared to newer top of the line smartphones.

I should also say your credibility was shot in a few of your other fanboy posts!!
