The reason why IE is always so behind is because the other browsers are open source. Meaning they are updated all the time. IE is closed. So only Microsoft updates.

That means that why technology changes all open source browsers are updated to match. IE on the other hand is upgraded to a new system once they are far enough behind that they have to upgrade.

IE will always be 5 steps behind at least and when the upgrade comes out, you has the user are caught up to technology from 6 months ago.

It will always be better for a user to use any other browser then IE.

The Internet is changing and fast. There are things I learn just a year ago that are useless now. Html5 and css3 are the future and only IE10 can support that And not even all of it.

More and more sites are being designed to be fully fluid and IE makes this extremely difficult because it is just so far behind. It will get to a point where designers are sick and tried of having to design for the regular world and then have to design for IE. I know many who are saying fuck it. If you as a user do not care enough about your tech to ensure viability, security, etc then they don't care if you can view their site properly.

Anyone using IE. please go at least 10 but seriously think about using a new browser as anything is better then IE.

2.) I can cut and paste and url instead of typing it in. Many urls are long and convoluted and its a pain to type it in.
Always remember CTRL+x, CTRL+c, and CTRL+v on Windows. They are cut, copy, and paste respectively. Even if there's no menu option you can often still do it.

As far as the question goes-- For the computers of family and friends I get stuck fixing, I usually set up Firefox and delete the IE icon from the desktop and toolbar (leaving it on the start menu, or whatever MS is using). When family and friends ask about other browsers I usually say, "Anything but IE'.

On Linux I use a Webkit based browser (like Safari or Chrome), but keep Firefox and a text only browser around. Firefox in case the Webkit based browser doesn't like a site (and for people who prefer Firefox), and the text only browser in case I blow up the graphics system / XWindows.

Nah, pretty much all of them have it nailed down except for Opera:

I was testing HTML5 in Chrome and IE9 a few months back on YouTube. I found it to be buggy.

I can't get full HTML5/CSS3 on Waterfox though. I refuse to use 32bit so it leaves me a bit incompatible. But I always have IETab and open in Chrome/Opera buttons if I need to switcharoo. I have not come across a site that wouldn't display in a long long time though.

Sorry anything IE9 or below should have a HTML5 Shiv script. There are tons of tags selectors that will simply not show up right below IE10 when writing full and proper HTML5/CSS3. I have to make accommodations on sites all the time. Especially in this industry as it reaches such a broad spectrum of men. Some who are not tech. savy and therefore do not often upgrade their systems or browsers.

I was using Chrome for a while and liked it, but I think there are issues when you use
Chrome and Norton together.
I got some strange messages and shutdowns at times.

Had the same issue, as did many others. From the Google help forum I discovered the solution: http://www.howtogeek.com/103292/how-to-fix-shockwave-flash-crashes-in-google-chrome/ Enter about: plugins in the address bar and turn off the flash player. You will need to download Adobe Flash Player in order to continue viewing programming/videos online.

I'll take your word for it since I don't do web development. My HTML is pretty basic and I can get around in most image programs and make some basic flash, maybe write a few scripts, but I have never had any problem on websites in a long time except YouTube using HTML5 instead of flash.

And I have tested almost every browser under the sun from Avant to Waterfox that runs on Windows; and have ran just about every OS under the sun for x86.

Maybe running Firefox on SCO or eComstation might cause some issues though! lol Been awhile since I've tinkered with old school stuff. But I don't think that's a problem for developers.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I finally found the three bars drop down on the right. I was always looking on the left after so many years on firefox. But I still can't find the "restore previous session". Any hints where it is?
There's another way to do this than what's already been shared. After you close your multiple tab session and start again in the morning, you can just go to the bottom right and select recently closed>(however many) tabs, if the Apps screen and not Most Visited is your opening page of the browser. If it's not, you can just toggle them, there's a grey bar at the middle bottom of the Most Visited page.

Linux/Ubuntu are interesting in that you can modify them to suit your needs, but I find Chrome intuitive. And ctrl+shift+n is a lifesaver ;)
