Just wondering what internet browsers people use and why.

I've been using firefox. It seems to have 2 features that I like that Explorer and Google Chrome don't have:

1.) Restore previous session. I like to work with many window open. When I turn on the computer in the morning, with one click, I can open all the windows I was using the previous day. I don't see that feature with Explorer or Chrome.

2.) I can cut and paste and url instead of typing it in. Many urls are long and convoluted and its a pain to type it in.

Now I am having some problems with firefox. I've uninstalled it and re-installed it but the problems persist, so I have gone over to Chrome and Explorer and I am really noticing these 2 features are missing.

How do other people find these 3 different browsers?

I use Opera which does those two things you want.
Also believe by going into settings/preferences, you can configure IE, FF and Chrome to do the same.

Chrome has a bunch of add-ons (my favorite is the auto-pager, so for example if a thread here is multiple pages it automatically loads the next page without going to a new screen) and also does both of the things you mentioned.

Switched from IE to Mozilla becuz Mo has a ad blocker app. Every time you watch a vid on say youtube those stupid ad's get's skipped so you go right into the vid/movie. For this alone the switch was worth it.. I hate ad's and youtube was getting ridiculous with theres.

Chrome can do 1 & 2

Thanks all for your suggestions. I finally found the three bars drop down on the right. I was always looking on the left after so many years on firefox. But I still can't find the "restore previous session". Any hints where it is?

The killer chrome feature is when you search a map location on your desktop then pull out your mobile phone and it syncs and you are looking at the same map.

Ubuntu has all the features you are looking for, it also uses the Firefox operating system. You can download Ubuntu free off the internet.
If you have an old computer, it seems cause it to run faster because it is a light OP. I use to run it on an old Dell computer and it worked just fine. I have a new laptop now and can not install Ubuntu because it has problems with AMD chips.

Never had any problem running Ubuntu on either Intel or AMD PCs.
Ubuntu Forums are excellent and should help you on that issue.

Ubuntu runs great on old PCs but even better on new ones...;)

wow!

I've been having some problems with some web sites (Mainly my internet banking) and the service dept. suggested I try Firefox. I was a bit reluctant, as I am not the most computer savvvy, and other than this problem, have been generally pleased the IE. Well, let me tell you, after 24 hours with Firefox, I am kicking myself in the ass for not getting it ages ago! No problems, fast , smart and easy!! I can't believe I stuck with that dinosaur IE for so long!!!!!

I use Nightly 64 bit, but since Mozilla has dropped 64 bit for Windows indefinitely I am going to switch to either Palemoon or Waterfox soon.

There are many browsers based on Chrome that can give a more unique experience to the user depending on how you use the web. For example, RockMelt, Coolnovo, Torch or Slimboat.

If you like to be cutting edge run Nightly (Firefox), Canary (Chrome) or Opera Next.

really simple....click on the 3 bars on the top right and select settings...second setting from the top select continue from where I left off.

chrome is a great browser. the address bar is used for addresses as well as search queries...no need to go to google.com etc

go to the chrome web store and get ad block and never worry about pop ups and ads, even the youtube ads are removed.

should you ever need IE there is an extension that gives you IE compatibilty too, called IE tab multi.

create google account and no matter what computer you use you can have all your chrome settings, extension, bookmarks etc in seconds.

additional users can be added with ease with their own bookmarks, settings etc

and incognito mode is great if you don't want cookies or history saved.

just to list a couple of great features.

and you also never need to worry about updating it's all automatic

no cut and paste needed, simply highlight the address, right click and select go to www.etc......

I've used all the major browsers from Netscape on up....currently I have IE,Safari,Opera,Firefox and Chrome installed....Chrome is my default and the only one i use. the others are just to check them out. I was a long time firefox user but switched when chrome was released and have never looked back...it keeps getting better

I use Firefox, but I'm not happy with a lot of its features. I find that the Adobe Flash plugin crashes way too often. I have my options set to open my homepage when I start Firefox, but it still prompts me to restore the previous session. I frequently have to shut it down using the Task Manager. Sometimes it puts a browser tab among my open Windows Explorer tabs. I do tend to have a lot of Windows open at the same time, as well as one or two torrent clients constantly open, uploading 100% of the time, and downloading about 5% of the time. I still use Windows XP, because my font making software doesn't work on Windows 7 or beyond, and Vista wasn't an improvement on XP. Despite those problems, Firefox is way better than Internet Explorer.

Firefox was restoring last session before IE even had tabs, if memory serves. Back then it was called Phoenix and then Firebird.

Firefox does take up a lot of memory. But I have enough RAM that it's not really an issue and since I use 64bit version (Nightly) I could use more than 4 GB in FF if I wanted or needed to.

However the memory thing extends to the engine as well as far as I can tell. When I've ran Gecko in other browsers (Avant, Lunascape) I've still seen Gecko take up huge chunks of memory. I know it's not the browsers because if I switch to Trident (IE) or Webkit (Chrome) in the same browsers it's not a problem (they are browsers that have multi-engine capability).

I really really like RockMelt and miss the social-networking integration it comes with; however there are some really awesome extensions for Firefox that you can't get with Chrome yet. One of them that is an absolute must for me is Multifox.

Firefox was my main browser for years until the last couple of months, when it would freeze up constantly and also have constant CPU leaks. Too bad as it was the browser that most compatible for the largest variety of webpages. I switched to chrome and after taking some time to get used to the differences, I find it to be a superior browser and super fast. Unfortunately Hotmail and Facebook don't display properly on it, so I still use IE for those.
