Getting old sucks...doesn't it!
You know when they say "The older you get, the less sleep you need".
Debunk!
What they really mean is " The older you get...the less sleep you're GONNA GET"!
...if I get 4 hours...I'm happy...

I find it very hard to fall asleep, I've tried taking over the counter sleeping pills, but you get used to it and doesn't work after a while.

You should try taking melatonin(over the counter). Its what you have naturally, but you have to take them nightly for a while to get full benefit.

You can also try drinking warm milk or chamomile tea before bedtime.
Good suggestion:) . IMHO, Melatonin is an excellent sleep aid. Take 2 3mg tablets of melatonin about an hour before bedtime and you should have no trouble falling asleep.

Melatonin was recommended to me by my family doctor as being one of the best sleep aids on the market even though you don't need a Doc's prescription to take it!

As in all over the counter drugs and vitamins, quality varies greatly.

I saw a show on CITY recently and a sleep expert said the Shopper's
Drug Mart (Life ?) melatonin was a good brand.

Good luck!

Hmmm...

If you haven't been able to sleep since a particular event (you mentioned a recent hospital stay?) you might need to go see your doctor and find out if there might be a connection. It can also be related to a change of routine if you haven't gotten back into your normal groove since the hospital stay.

Honestly, if it's happening almost every day, all the temporary remedies like tea, pills, and booze won't fix it. You need to find the underlying cause. Maybe a change of environment would help? Going on vacation, I always find I sleep better since I'm in a better frame of mind and can relax much better.

Of course, I'm writing all this in the wee hours of the morning since I'm suffering from insomnia right now. Spent too much time at the gym in the evening, and now I'm all wound up. Working out normally lets me sleep, but the timing needs to be right.

Sleeping 2 hours a night (maximum) is not good for you and you should see a medical professional asap.

It could be a side effect to something that you have taken recently.

Try not to stress or think too much. Clear your mind off of everything.

Try to relax. Are you eating right ? Sometimes the diet may effect your sleeping patterns.

Try not to take over the counter drugs without a doctor's advice as taking unnecessary drugs may affect your body and also make your body worse.

I've had the same problem for a while now. I've tried everything from sleep clinics to herbal remedies to seeing if I had clinical depression. Nothing. It's frustrating since I do get tired during the day.

I don't have an answer but I'm watching this thread out of mutual interest. It's especially hard on an SO who's a light sleeper already. I try not to make too much noise but there are times when my restlessness has disturbed her.
