If by natural cures you mean herbs there is a variety of herbal
recipes for insomnia in Chinese medicine. Unfortunately most
of these herbs such as lotus seeds only work in a way such that
you will sleep soundly through the night and wake up.
refreshed. They are not very effective in helping you to fall asleep
like the way sleeping pill works.

It is up to you to find a way to relax yourself before you turn
to medicine. Exercise in moderation could help provided that the
timing is right. If are are into orchestral music classical
pieces such as Gabriel Faure's Requiem and Samuel Barber's
Adagio may also help.

Look into relaxation and breathing exercises -- meditation. I too have trouble falling asleep at times, but I've found I can force myself to sleep just by focussing on controlling my breathing and thus, relaxing myself and clearing my mind...

Another suggestion is to avoid caffeine or high sugar foods after 6 pm. I know if I have a couple or three cokes I won't be sleeping until 3 am at least.

CF? Oh you left yourself WIDE open with your "clearing your mind"....man I could have nailed you good ..........

Sorry, unless the tea is caffeine free, then drinking it is the last thing you should do.......

Have you always had sleep problems or just recently?

If just recently... you need to get rid of the stresses that have been bothering you and keeping you awake.

The bad news is, some people just are bad sleepers, and not many things will help you out. I'm one of them. But if its just been a short time or you go through phases then there are some things that may help, like some of the suggestions above.

Not true Incall. Try Omego 3-6-9. I've had my share of sleeping disorders. I fall asleep quickly (like those old fashion dolls, lay them down and their eyes instantly close). Its the waking up at 2:00pm.

I starting taking Jamieson's Omega a couple of years ago and within 3-4 days was sleeping like a baby...... It's cheap too. One jar of 180 last about 3 months and it cost less than $20. I take one capsule in the morning after my cereal and two before I go to bed.....

Lady Raven, see your GP and get a referral to a sleep physician. They will give you a sleep test to pinpoint where the problem is. You may have sleep apnea which can lead to insomnia.

Good luck.

I initiated a thread on "Sleep" a couple of months ago in case you want to check it out. Saw a feature on CityTV this week about sleep studies and 85% of normal people should get 8 hours a night plus or minus 1 hour. Anything outside that range is abnormal and unhealthy.

I had no trouble sleeping until I noticed Ceiling Cat looking down at me. Now I find it much harder to fall asleep and stay asleep because that critter is always there in my ceiling.

Get a small bottle of lavender oil and before you go to sleep, drop 1 drop on your main sleeping pillow. It makes my sleep super restful.

I normally would suggest a nice sloppy BJ... I sleep like a baby following such a thing.

I guess it sucks to be a woman sometimes...

Seriously though, 2 hours isn't normal and certainly isn't healthy. See your GP if you have tried the usual stuff. Even review your exercise routine if you have one. If I do a cardio workout or go for a run in the evening, I'm up half the night. If I hoist some iron I can sleep soundly a couple of hours later. If you don't exercise... start.

And a glass of wine or your favorite concoction will help too. Just one though!

You've been getting only 2 hours of sleep each night for almost 3 months? How do you function?

Ok, stay away from power tools like that heavy duty vibrator for example.

Not enough vigorous exercise involved.
Try something more vigorous like a lengthy CG session.
You've heard of Shop till you Drop....try CG till you drop.
You may sleep like a baby after....:)
