It depends on what you are looking for.
Indy - You get a direct contact with the SP and gives you an opportunity to get to know each other and plan you session better.
Agency - More choice and appointment certainty.
I like indy's for the connection you get. Even though one of my ATF and best connection is an agency girl.

Another Agency vs. Indy thread? I just did an advanced search using key words "Agency vs. Independent" which netted no less than 11 separate threads under that exact title in the first 5 pages alone.....

Many times. Much more intrusive client verification process for both incall and outcall services. Costs are significantly higher in the US, basic services significantly more limited in the US as well - almost everything is available, but largely at an upsell. My most 'satisfying' encounters have actually been with porn stars, as opposed to metro based agencies or locally based indys, although those experiences were exceptionally pricey.
For fetish, private clubs are best, but again, can be very pricey depending on your personal desires and predispositions.

I find the indies can offer better prices, because they're not sharing the money with an agency. My funds are a little limited so I find I get better value with an independent.
Which begs the question:
What are the advantages/disadvantages of using the search function as opposed to starting a new thread for a previously discussed topic?
You are right. They can offer better rates, but to me it seems they don't. It seems to me that most of the indies are $300+/hr, whereas the agencies are $250-275.
If you are talking about the high risk/low quality BP type of indies that is different.
Search is your friend. This question, like so many others, has probably already been discussed to death....
I've seen three different ladies here in Durham, all for $100 per half hour, and I have no complaints about their quality.
