They do indeed, when they arrive at a slow pace, over decades. They adapt to the existing, majority culture.

But when you bring immigrants en masse, all from the same place, you remove that incentive. There is no need to adapt to your own culture.

I would counter that a section of Muslim immigrants do not wish to assimilate. They were the ones leading the charge along side right wing types vs sex education in schools. It is in fact a right-wing religious cult.
