This clown is unbelievable. The female driver, Danica Patrick, is cute though. :D

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he will not compete in the race again unless the field is equalized.

Gordon, a former open-wheel driver now in NASCAR, contends that Patrick is at an advantage over the rest of the competitors because she only weighs 100 pounds. Because all the cars weigh the same, Patrick's is lighter on the race track.

"The lighter the car, the faster it goes," Gordon said. "Do the math. Put her in the car at her weight, then put me or Tony Stewart in the car at 200 pounds and our car is at least 100 pounds heavier.

"I won't race against her until the IRL does something to take that advantage away."

The Indy Racing League does not consider the weight of the driver in its race specifications. The car has to weigh at least 1,525 pounds before the fuel and driver are added, and teams in Indy have estimated that Patrick will gain close to 1 mph in speed because of her small stature.

Although her rivals in Sunday's race have said she doesn't have a huge advantage, pole-sitter Tony Kanaan told reporters he would like the Indy Racing League to look into the issue.

"Right off the bat, a guy my size is spotting her 105 pounds," Gordon said. "That's the reason she's so much faster."

Gordon never planned to race in the Indy 500 this season, choosing instead to focus on his job as owner of a NASCAR team. Gordon had run in the 500 and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 on the same day the past four years.

But with his startup team struggling, Gordon couldn't afford to take his focus off NASCAR. He qualified 25th for Sunday's race, but his car was among the fastest in most of the practice sessions.

Still, he said the No. 7 Chevrolet is searching for more horsepower from its Menard-built engines.

"We are a long ways away," Gordon said. "But we're still working and we will get there."

When lap times are down to 1/100 of a second....his argument isn't all flawed either. Just fasten some dumbells in the passenger side and were good. :D

Never the safest place
Paul Tracy used to complain about being at a disadvantage to the smaller drivers, like Cristiano da Matta. I think Champ Car might have changed their rules to have the minimum weight be the car and driver together, instead of just the car by itself.

Yeah. See her FHM photos from a couple of years ago.

She should have smiled though.

Your probably gonna see more bitching about this in the future. I predict they will impose a rule like horse racing. everyone carries the same amount of weight. you have to give the lady some credit she drove her ass of yesterday and actually had a chance to win.

Does this mean that fellows in the NBA who aren't over, say, 6'6" can get some sort of boosters in their shoes then? Or the linebackers who are over 350 lbs have to lose a bunch of weight? How about a golfer who has better eyesight than the rest? Will he/she be required to wear lenses that will make their images a bit blurry?

Danica did nothing wrong. She raced within the rules, turned left 800 times, and came out ahead of most of her rivals.

Sour grapes indeed.

Gordon may have a point but from a publicity standpoint the IRL hit a home run yesterday. Due to her starting position of 4th there was even more attention paid to the Indy 500. The fact that she was able to lead a number of laps and finish fourth is outstanding as well considering that she made at least 3 "rookie" mistakes and was able to over come them.

I look forward to Car and Driver Television every Saturday at noon on Spike because she is the host. A female race car driver who is beautiful and has mad skills..............ME LIKES!!! ;)

Ditto.

Do you think that her performance in bed might be... mechanical?

(Not that we'll ever know but she gives me wood nonetheless.)

So what if her car goes 1 mph faster, that is not an issue to me. I see that there are a bunch of asshats that don't want to let a girl into the boys club. If anyone remembers, Paul Tracey lost a ton of weight so he could be competitive. The fact remains, she is a damn fine driver and proved it to the boys during the race. She probably had a winning shot too if she hadn't made the error and smashed the wing on the front of her car. I'm waiting for the day when I can see her soping wet and covered with champagne. :p

1 mph sounds so little...

But think about that over a 2 hr race, that amounts to a 2 mile distance, or approximately 1 entire lap. In the battle between 1st and 2nd place that lap could be the difference. I agree with the general sentiment that he's just whining and most drivers are more than likely a little jealous of all of the attention she gets on and off the race track. But his argument may not be entirely transparent as it seems. You still have to be in the battle for the top spot for things to make a difference in winning the race though.

Gordon did have a point here, and it kills me to say it because he's been one of the biggest assholes in motor racing in recent memory.

Not necessarily, but maybe a minimum weight should include the driver since the driver is actually a part of the functioning automobile. It seems that someone who is very light would benefit solely by stature. I see your point, about fat drivers, but it's more the unusually low minimum weight of Danica that is in question here. It's like when the "vertically challenged" guy was used in a baseball game with a 12 inch strike zone from chest to the knee. I don't think she should have to drag around an extra 100 lbs or more (if you use the fattest person argument). But maybe setting a minimum wieght of car and driver such that it accounts for a 150-160 lb driver would even the playing field. I'm sure that there have been drivers at that weight for many years and a minimum would get rid of the argument all together. Maximums are more manageable than minimums to an extent so if a driver wants to be fat, so be it. There's never a solution that makes everyone happy. But this type of correction may shut up the whiny statements like Gordon's and make other drivers put up or shut up. There are always going to be people that feel the rules aren't fair, and maybe they should just pack up their car and go home.

Lighter cars, though, = less friction, therefore more necessary wing in the corners, to keep the car from spinning off the track & into a wall (or another car). More wing in the straights = slower top speed.

Its a tough question, to be honest. Someone earlier in the thread made a point about a 200 lb+ driver having the choice to get into shape. But if he did, maybe he could get to 170? 150? Danica would still have a 50 lb advantage in that case, and that means she can either run a lot lighter and get more speed, or she can run more fuel at an equal weight, and just pit fewer times.

If you watch the racing on SpeedTV (I can't remember the name of the series) they apply weight penalties to various cars depending on how dominant they were at the last race to create a more level playing field, so there is some precedent for it.

I don't know what the answer is, but I can see why he has a gripe. I'd be pissed if someone else had a 50-70lb weight advantage over my car. BAR got disqualified and banned from two additional races by playing games with weight.
