It is as the title says. I'm bored.

I go through this quite often in my life. Things getting boring really quickly. My mainstream work is multifaceted because over the years, I got bored, learned a new "thing" and then added it to my repertoire. I am now bored with work again. I still supervise and point my figure because that is what the boss does but I don't even want to do that and find I am passing off what I can where I can.

I wouldn't say escorting is boring but it is a little mundane in some ways as I am learning. I want to take new pics but can't get the creative juices flowing enough I think. Poses seem 'meh' and the same for everyone, even photographers are the same. You see the same work done for everyone.

I have other hobbies but even those are losing appeal. I would travel but nothing is "wow"ing me. I have been looking at trips, cruises, etc. Nothing is jumping out at me.

The holiday happened and I feel like I am still in lazy lala mode but I am not. Things are getting done, bills are being paid, I am out or in meeting new people. I visit with friends, go to the movies. I do stuff all the time. I am just really bored. I need something new to get excited about and sink my teeth into.

Anyone get like this? Anyone have some ideas or suggestions of things they have always wanted to learn or try. Be it a new hobby or trade or something. My brain needs a challenage.

I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I don't have a problem with failing so long as I try. I don't mind spending money on learning new things so taking course or buying equipment is not an issue for me. Traveling is not an issue for me. Time is not even an issue for me. I am an empty-nester, single. So not much to hold me back from anything. Physically, I am not in the best shape but I am not a complete write off either - LOL. I work hard for what I want so I will/would train my body along with my brain if need be.

What do you find as a health challenage in life? Maybe it can help me out of this rut I have gotten myself into.

See a shrink. "Boredom", procrastinating and aimlessness are usually signs of underlying mental issues.

My shrink told me to find a hobby so I came here. Now you are sending me back. No wonder I am bored. I am dancing in circles. LOL.

I get like this too, and I surmise I may have, and you may have, cyclothymic disorder. This is by no means a diagnoses so of course, see a professional. I haven't but I use mental exercises, and exercise to deal with my "down" swings.

In a nutshell, cyclothymic disorder is when you alternate between hypo-manic periods and very shallow depressions, with periods of normal functioning. The frequency with which you experience down and upswings varies among individuals.

The feeling of constant boredom, loss of interest in previously interesting activities, a decreased ability or inability to derive pleasure from once pleasurable things, are all signs of depression. The fact you still function suggests it is not a major depressive episode and because it does not negatively impact your day to day functioning in social, professional, and personal life areas, it does not really warrant a diagnosis or treatment, if you can manage the periods.

Do you ever go through periods of the complete opposite? Where it feels like you have boundless energy and are interested in every and anything that comes your way, smashing one goal after the next with seemingly no effort? If so, those would be your hypo-manic periods.

I find I go through this sexually as well. Sometimes I have little interest and desire but can perform if stimulated. Other times I'm a horny teen that craves it 5+ times a day.

Because of the above, I would want a second opinion - if I felt a diagnosis and treatment was necessary - but I don't. That's just me though.

To address the main point of your OP - yes, exercise can do wonders to snap you out of this rut. Weight lifting would be my suggestion. Free weights like the guy in your latest story haha. Set a goal to be able to say, squat your body weight in 1 years time, or something along those lines. Buy a dress or piece of lingerie a few sizes too small and put it somewhere you will see it every day, then work toward fitting in that and save it for a special client/friend. Most of all, fake it til you make it. Changing your behaviour, even if your mind isn't quite in it, can jump start your mind causing it to follow suit.

Mentally, try to realize that these feelings are just that, feelings. It's a somewhat weird and difficult concept to wrap one's head around, but thoughts, emotions, they're not really real, and hold no real significance in the real world, unless we impart significance onto them. Sam Harris covers this concept well in his book "Waking Up" where he dives into the psychology and neuropsychology of mindfulness meditation. In the book he tells of his days travelling and studying in the East, taking months-long hiatuses from Western life to experience solitude and meditative training, in addition to experimenting with ecstasy lol. Great book from a great author imho. If you can learn to control, and/or dismiss your thoughts, you'd be surprised what you can accomplish in terms of alleviating yourself of anxieties and counterproductive mind states. I could talk about this all day but I'll just end here lol.

Ok guys. Let's be clear I was joking about the shrink. I can assure you all this is not that type of boredom.

I didn't think this thread would take this type of turn and for that I am sorry. I am just looking for some new interesting ideas on hobbies, skills, trades, etc that would be fun and interesting to try for this year. Or maybe an exotic travel destination that most don't get to try in their lifetime, etc.

Let's take a more light hearted approach here please as that is my intent. Thanks.

For example. I got bored a couple of years ago. I tried roller derby. Was kinda cool. Was kind of hard on my body but it was fun while it lasted. Maybe 15 years ago I would have taken a general interest course at the local college, etc. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Take a trip to a truly amazing place, for example Kenya. Look at the African Savannah and you will not be bored for a while.

Sounds like you have a case of S.A.D. I get this quite a bit this time of the year. Maybe get a hold of a friend and take a walk around the city. Go to Yorkville or queen west, go to a cafe have some lunch. Its going to be a beautiful day why not take advantage of it

I am going to re-clarify again for myself. Yes I am woman I am allowed to not make sense. It is coded in our DNA. Lol.

I am looking for a challenage. That is where my boredom lies. I go out, I have friends, I am not lonely or feel alone. I am active, happy and content with life in genrral. This is really going to sound bad but total first world problem here.

I am just looking for a challenage. So that is usually learning a new skill or trade or expanding my mind. For a trip I would want to explore some unknown never seen before place. Some cave or ruin or something. Not tourist type. That is boring to me. I could go to an AI anywhere, see a safari, take a cruise but meh. Sign me up for a trip to Mars. That would be an awesome adventure. LOL.

You should try learning another language, I find it very fun and it can make travelling to places where that is the language a lot more enjoyable.

S.A.D can be a shitshow, go for a long walk before your morning coffee. No sense in becoming the Chairman of the Bored.

How about backpacking in Afghanistan? Not touristy, plenty of ruins, potential for excitement and, most likely, you'll be the hottest lady there. Just getting there should be quite a trip.

I think this is quite common after Christmas and during winter.
Depression, which I myself have experienced.
In the UK we now have a Minister to address Loneliness of the population.
We live our lives fast paced, with emphasis on material things satisfying us and fellow humans supporting us.
We never take time to be alone, look after ourselves because we fear loneliness.
IT does not have to be.
One does not have to be spiritual, though it helps and adds another dimension, knowing that although we are by ourselves, we are not alone.
Only a suggestion, but it also gives us time to talk to God.
In these types of times though I was gonna suggest hobbies.
hobbies don't need to be expensive either.
Taking pics of nature for example.
the therapy is in getting out and away from your normal life and all it's stresses and learning to appreciate and marvel the simpler, free things in life.
I don't think there is any one thing as we are all different.
you've made progress in identifying there is problem and reached out for answers, suggestions etc.
Best of Luck

Become a scuba diver! Lots of great diver development destinations, many with unpatronizing traveller scenes. Try diving and hate it, you’re in a great part of the world to explore.

I became a divemaster during a 2-month period of downtime and never looked back. It was something new, a challenge and a complete life reset, thanks to the place I lived.

If you want a party, you can find that. If you want something really healthy and spiritual, you can find that.

Since that first experience, I started travelling differently. I go to a cool place and live for a couple months, and do short trips from there. I love to immerse myself in a new scene, and moving hostel to hotel every day (or week) never allowed me to really “live” anywhere I was visiting. Having something to do, whether it be human or conservation outreach or “working” in the dive industry, it’s a great way to meet new friends really quickly, and you’re never bored.
