Yes, they usually have 2 versions of the same movie: DVD5 (single layer) and DVD9 (dual layer). I don't buy DVD5 but 10 for $20 seems to ring a bell.

I usually look for DVD9 versions that are pressed (i.e. production quality). I think most DVD5 versions are ripped and burned

This is an example of $5 DVD9 (pressed, not burned):

I went there yesterday and no illegal English DVD movies were to be found. A few stores were closed and others stores only had Chinese and Philipino movies.

I then went to another Chinese mall at Sheppard and Brimley and the same thing.

Does anyone know about a recent raid and when they will start selling them again.

Thank you.
Apparently they were raided last Fri, Sat and Sun... 3 times in a row.

Amen.
Downloading is the way things are headed anyways. Easy to view on TV as well.

PacMall in the past has been great for me...most $2 movies are perfect. Perhaps one dud out of 10.

But if you're looking for pristine quality, or something archival, even disc based media have a limited shelf life.

Go figure.

They sell counterfeit merchandise.

They violate the Copyright Act and the Criminal Code.

And someone has the nerve to conduct a raid, seize their merchandise and seek appropriate penalties.

What kind of country do we live in?

Honest, unless they're some foreign ( Japanese/Thai/Korean/Chinese) titles that are not available elsewhere , I'd much rather prefer to rent and watch the flick on the flatscreen.

Viewing those 8, 10 for 20 on your HDTV is horrible. They fair better on older CRT's but still ... for my eyes, it's like torture.

My point exactly. ALthough if they are OEM as Norm says, they should be the same quality.

But even still, I see no need to break the law, risk arrest, just because I want something NOW as opposed to a month from NOW......

If you go there today, you'll probably get a decent cam copy of Quantum Of Solace cause it's already available to download on the net. This is where they get most of their inventory.

You see, that's just fucking murder to me. A low quality viewing of a decent budget action film, a Bond flick. ...Or maybe I'm just old school :p

I know, to each his own.

ya, but what about all the mom and pop video stores that suffer from all the cheap fuckers out there who wanna find the easy way to get shit in life? We work our fucking butts off - many times 80-100+ hours to make a living! Then we have some a-holes who have the nerve to ask for their money back cause their software can't copy the disc! Rogers and BB get their discs for under 3 bucks! Meanwhile, the indy retailers have to pay, in EVERY case, 2-6 bucks MORE than what the consumer has to pay.

Most ethnic corner stores rent out bootleg dvds to their customers, and the authorities say fuck all 'cause of the fear that they will be labeled as racist.

If we were to do that we'd be fined big time and probably be shut down.

But, please. Think about the little guy that's just trying to get through life like you. Downloading is killing jobs and businesses. We're not all big box stores counting mega-cash at the end of the night. Most of us make well below minimum wage.

..flame away...

I was there today, still no english dvds in site, and most of the dvd stores were closed. My guess is it will be business as usual within the next 2 weeks.

pirated DVDS have high defective rates they always give "unable to read disc" may be that's why they stop sell them
No. It's those stupid expensive & fancy DVD players the ones that can't read pirated DVD's, I had to buy a $29.99 DVD player from Wal-Mart to be able to see all my collection.
