Your area needs much more than just a good seafood restaurant. It needs a good restaurant period.

I went to Salvatore's by the way. (Based on your recommendation.)

Key - Rist, what a whacked out restaurant. Maniquins all over the damn place, sparkle light ceilings, gawd awful. Washrooms were very clean though.

Food was fair. Not good, not bad.

Would not recommend, would not repeat.
To be honest, Jim, Salvatores is good but you are right it is glitzy.

Myself I am a huge tavern and diner fan. You can not beat good old fashioned cooking. We do however lack sorely in seafood.

I probably would because I enjoy what I do but I would do what I always wanted to do:

Donate more time to habitat for humanity. I'm just too busy trying to earn a living to work for them these days......

Would you still work if you won the lottery?

For me, it depends. If I won 1 million, it wouldn't be enough to retire, so I'd have no choice but to continue working. If I won 10 million, on the other hand, I would definitely stop working.

The only jobs I would do if I had 10 million, would involve being a famous musician, famous actor, or professional athlete. Not surprisingly, all famous musicians, actors, and athletes continue to work even though they essentially win the lottery every year, given their huge salaries.
No I wouldn't. I'll give my two weeks notice and plan for the future. I'm free....:D

between here and there
hmmmm

If I won a lottery, 1 million or more, I would do all of those cliche things...take care of my family, pay off the debts, put aside money for the childs education and finish paying for my own. Money is meant to be spent and 1 million won't last long therefore i would definatley work and continue my education. Now, if I won Saturdays 29 million maybe i would take a few years off but still go to school. lol.

Would I still work?

Sure, but in a reduced capacity...

I would buy up some land, build some rental units and hire a good building management guy so I wouldn't have to deal with the headaches. I would still work a bit... but there would be plenty of time for traveling, golf, cycling, canoeing etc. I would also like to try and cross off some things off the bucket list- skydiving, base jumping, hiking the Great Wall etc. :)

Lottery winner

I would not work, however, I would ensure I have some hobbies to keep my mind going.

Having Kids in school, means I would travel during school vacations, but once they leave home I would probably take extended trips - six months in Greece for example and do lots of other activities for which I currently don't have time:

multi day hiking, art classes, volunteer work (more than I do now), have a custom designed home built - and I mean custom where I would participate in every part of the design and build (as the boss!, not doing the hard work).

Part of my work would also making sure the winnings would be working for me - I'm talking investing in part of a $10 million win.

Winning a $1 million wouldn't do much for me, except I may give up my 3 day a week contract and do more freelance work or develop some more internet businesses myself.

Assuming I won 10 million or more, I probably wouldn't work. Maybe here and there when I had the craving... but VERY minimally.

I'd want to travel (none of this bullshit resort stuff, ACTUALLY travel) and see new things. Maybe 6 months in each place? I'd also want to buy real estate and learn to day trade... realistically speaking I figure I'd just disappear to other countries for long periods of time and invest the majority of my winnings. I guess I'm cautious like that.

Why take the risk of starting up a new business and having it fail when you have enough cash to do whatever you'd like? Assume the new business was successful, you'd be working 12 or more hours a day 7 days a week at least in the initial stages of it, which would be many years.

Why not just travel the world or pick up some hobbies? I'm not judging, I know it's a personal choice, but to me it just seems odd when people say they want to open up their own business after winning a large chunk of money.
Do not forget that with a large lottery win, $10 mil or more, you can ride out the slow start until the business picks up. You would not have to turn a profit right away. I understand what you are saying and I would be careful about how much I invest and how much I would have set aside in case the business does fail.

I would donate some money to the care of animals.
I liked the idea of buying an MRI for a hospital(or whatever), but those things cost around $2mil and a room has to be renovated to handle the MRI and that is about $500Gs.

i'd probably keep escorting here and there because i really do enjoy it (no, i'm not just saying that!) plus i have a few regulars who i think i would miss. :-(

i'd do other stuff though too because i'd get bored. I would travel a lot and probably just keep taking university and/or college courses .
i would do the same thing keep regulars and travel

That's a great idea - I never thought of that. It's not fair that they publish the lottery winners' names in the media. I know I would get hounded by family and so-called 'friends' if I won the lottery.

I used to think it was unfair to publish winners names too, until it was pointed out to me that if every winner wasn't identified how would you know the government actually gave the prize out? Here in N.Y. you know the crooks would get the money.

You guys that say you would open your own business... please don't do that. That's where a lot of winners have lost it. You don't need to win the lottery to open a business. If you are an entrepreneur you will find a way and if you're not, all the lottery money in the world won't make you a good businessman.

The odds of winning the Megamillion jackpot are 1 in 175,711,536 which is about the same as the odds of a monkey flying out of my ass on a given day. As they say the lottery is a tax on people who didn't do well in math. So why do I play sometimes? Yup...didn't do well in math... and I'm feeling lucky.

Would I retire? Probably until I got bored. I'll let you know when I win.

If I won big!

I have 6 personal friends that I would help out.

Charities that I would donate too:
Cancer Assistance Program
2 Hospices in my area
SPCA (Not Toronto, sorry)
Make a wish foundation
Ronald McDonald house
I would have a separate account for those public interest stories that often happen, where someone needs a wheelchair or a ramp, etc.

I'd purchase a condo on Queen's Quay, so that all the lovely ladies from TERB that I'm friendly with could wander over to my place.
Vehicle: Porsche Cayenne or Possibly a Lexus/BMW SUV. I'm a short dude, so the Escalade wouldn't look right. LOL.

Travel with my favourite SP's. Now, I'm not sure if I would ever settle down. As my mother used to say, "Why make one miserable, when you can make many happy" LOL.

Now, the odds of winning may not be in my favour, but you can't win, if you don't play!

I'd have to share my wealth with dozens of family members, either that or completely cut them out of my life so there wouldn't be anger, envy or just knowing I'm seen as a different person.

I thought about picking up my winnings in Sault Ste. Marie to get under the radar, but I think it would get just as much attention. I'd definitely lay low, pay off the family and go with off to an exotic foreign country for at least a year.
No major purchases, maybe a nice used Porsche if the price was right. Maybe a car cover for it as well so I wouldn't need to buy a house with a garage.
Maybe a better bicycle, build a little shed for it...

Oh hell, I'll buy a gigantic mansion with a 10 car garage, hire a chef and maid and get tons of security - screw the family, I won't be able to afford to pay them off. :p

If I won a large sum of money ($10M plus), I would retire from my current job but not right away.

I wouldn't even claim the money right away. Instead I would wait until a major news story hit (Michael Jackson dead, US invades Iraq, terrorist attack, Tiger Woods, etc.) and then go claim my prize.

Why? Because it's much easier to slip under the media scrutiny and claim your prize if it's a busy news day/week. That will pay dividends when you don't have all the crazies coming out of the woodwork looking for a handout.

In the interim, I'd be hiring a very good accountant and figuring out how I want to collect and what I'm going to do with the money. I'd also be laying the groundwork by changing my phone number, preparing to move, changing my e-mail address, extended vacation so the media can't find me, etc., etc., etc.

When you get a large sum of money like that, you want to be able to "disappear" as much as possible.
Thanks for the tip. I think I'll follow that advice when I win the megamillions or 6/49. :)

More money has been lost on real estate and day trading than in anything else. Be careful out there.
just remember: for every dollar LOST on anything, someone else made money. It just doesn't evaporate into thin air.......

For example: in the current real estate market in the US SOMEONE had to get the money from all those high risk mortgages. Whether they were builders, developers, investors, owners, whatever. The money went to someone......
