If you had the #1 pick in a playoff pool...

...who would you take, based only on how many points they`ll get in the playoffs?

I`d take Patrik Elias first. I think Mike Modano is going to have a helluva run too.

I'd consider Thornton too, sometimes the higest scorer throughout the entire playoffs doesn't even make it further than the 3rd round.

SJ plays Nashville in the first round and will probably win it. I also expect it to be high scoring.

i'd go with Gionta... but odds for him being top producer are something like 1 in 400.

I picked Gionta on the basis that I think the Devils will have a long run in the playoffs. While Thornton is a logical 1st pick, I dont know if they'll get past the 2nd round.

We had our draft last night.

Alfredsson went first.

I had 12th (last) pick. I took Elias, first Devil drafted. Then for my next pick, 13th overall, I took Eric Staal. Only problem is they'll probably play eachother in the 2nd round unless Ottawa gets knocked out. Go, Lightning, go.

Thornton is a logical 1st pick,.

knowing ron wilson, he's gonna make use of Thornton's very effective defensive game as a sorta 'secret weapon' in the playoffs... JT might still get the points, but i think there are better picks than him...

this is too bad for JT in one way, though it will ensure a better chance at victory, the common hockey fan will typecast JT as a non-playoff performer because of a lower point production, when really he is most valuable in playoff hockey playing a defensive game.

^ you see... now 2 games are in the books and you see what i mean. Thornton's playing a more defensive role... sure, he sets up when he can, but his play has altered...

and i was also right about hockey fans and the media are jumping on him for not being a playoff performer again... they're wrong... he brings an excellent defensive game.

I had the #1 pick in mine and took Elias as well. Got a few weird looks at the time but it looks good so far.

by the way things look, i'm sure Elias or Gionta will still look like good picks 6 weeks from now... those that loaded up with devil's picks probably are wise to do so...

and given Ottawa's consistent playoff non-successes, Brad Richards and St. Louis and/or Lecavalier are probably good bets, too.

my pick before the playoffs started and still now, is Gionta..
