I was reading some Twitter drama this morning, regarding more staff at Brass quitting to go join CMJ. The reason seemed to be what they considered lack of security at Brass, because they wouldn't check member IDs. One of the CMJ staff said they should join there, because ID checks were done on members. Is that true? I haven't been there in years, but there's no way I'd go along with a ID check for contact tracing purposes or anything else.

My memberships at Brass and CMJ both were just "pay the fee and give a name" sign ups, with no actual personal information provided. Has that changed too?

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to clarify.
Like every other spa in Ottawa, we do not check the ID of our patrons unless they look under the legal drinking age.
However, for contact tracing purposes, we use any form of contact method whether it’s email, phone number, twitter handle or terb handle through our membership information in our Covid questionnaire in case we ever needed to contact you (knock on wood that has not been the case for contact tracing due to Covid).

When you go to any other business, are you asked for ID when this contact information is requested?

Unlike other clubs, we don’t allow guest. Our patrons are actually members and members are booked in a controlled environment.
Our membership is only $5 lifetime and you need to be a member of the club to partake or you don’t partake at all.
Membership is required.

Thanks for clarifying Jessica. I’m planning to join Brass very soon. I’d like to hear what the CMJ policy is before I consider membership.

Brass can reach me through the email address I provided for any contact tracing purposes, which I think is sufficient. I have an account with CMJ but it's been a long time since I created it so I don't even know what information it has (and it would all be invalid now, if anything is there). It looks like new members can pay CMJ a membership fee by cash in person or by credit card online, so for those who pay online the card would provide full personal information.

No issues for me. It's not like we have to provide our real name, address, phone number and Social Security number, it's just for them to have a way to reach us in case of problems. They can have my hobbying email address, no issues there: it's not traceable to my real life person. And for phone number, I have a virtual number that can't be traced back to me either.

Please guys, don't give bogus info when they ask you this, no matter if it's a restaurant or a massage parlor. Bogus info is worst than no info since it waste time when trying to contact numbers/emails that don't exist.

Where I live, they got an outbreak in a bar that started with about a dozen people and, the more it goes, the more they find infected people related to that single incident. People were drunk and nobody can remember who they saw and the bar didn't bother with contact tracing.
The only way Public Health figures out the link is when the people get tested and say they were at that bar. Before the time the clients got infected and the time they got tested, they had time to infect more people.
If the bar believed in contact tracing, they could have reached all clients that were there during the same period and it would have minimized the second level contamination.

If the need is and you're really worried spreading personal info all over the place, create an email address called something like "covid19scares@mydomain.com" and ensure you check it regularly, hoping it will be empty then, when that shit is over, delete the account.

If you have to show ID then there is no fake name, unless of course you have a fake ID And that is too much trouble for me.

A hobbying email is obvious but doesn’t answer the question about ID checks.

I was thinking about signing up with CMJ as they have some great looking ladies but have no interest in having my real name in any of their databases. Any perusal of the news will show that none of these databases are ever safe from hacks or leaks.

No crossing borders for me either. I'm even a little worried to ride the bus to work tomorrow when the kids go back to school. At least they won't be going downtown, just local routes. Keep distanced, wear a mask, wash your hands, don't don't touch anything...
