The most likely scenario is she found her voice after he sexually assaulted her. Does being a rock star somehow give them permission to sexually assault groupies?
I don't like the concept of anybody hiding their identity while free to make career ending accusations with impunity. It becomes a Roman coliseum where anyone from the shadows with a chip on their shoulder can join in the attack without fear of interrogation.

Have you not been following the news? It wasn't the Ottawa woman's story that's forced them to call it quits for a while. The band has a history of inappropriate behavior involving underage girls.
No, I don't follow this news issue. Why were they never charged for statutory rape ?

Groupies have been throwing themselves at band members since the 40's (Sinatra) ... for these thousands of groupies - how do retroactively judge these voluntary stranger/ celebrity sex romps ?

Whether a date or a groupie - sexual assault shouldn't be tolerated but to grant anonymity to someone whose only objective was a sexual encounter with a celebrity just strikes me as very unfair and actually promotes abuse of career ending false allegations.

Just an opinion. This freedom of being judged while anonymously decimating a person's career is my hang up. Without the anonymity, the stories are much more credible to me.

I don't question that he was inappropriate with her, or anyone else for that matter.

What I disagree with is the information gets posted on social media so public opinion ruins people. It should be going through the proper legal channels.

If the accuser is truthful or not, they've already ruined someone.

I have a feeling that most people wouldn't be sympathetic
for the accused even if the accuser's account turns out to
be less than truthful which is probably the case
Irrespectively of whether the sex is consensual it is a case
of exploitation of the naivete of some young ignorant woman by a celebrity. It is not a criminal but nonetheless
despicable act.

If Hoggard's name is going to be ruined it is no
more heartless to say he deserves it than saying the
woman deserve the degradation she brought on
herself.

Is it your belief that these, now two woman are purposely lying about the events for the sole purpose of damaging the singer's career?

No, I don't follow this news issue.
Maybe you should. At least you would have know the reason the band's been dropped.

That's not what we're talking about. I have no issues with groupies or voluntary stranger/celebrity sex romps. It's sex acts performed without consent. Big difference.

Name a rock star who's career has been ended by an anonymous allegation?

You are on the starting precipice of the anonymous allegations but career ending bad behaviour - Jerry Lee Lewis only because he married the 13 year old. In this new age of intolerance of underage sex - these guys came in under the wire: Elvis, David Bowie, Jimmy Page, R. Kelly, Steven Tyler and more. In this 'Me Too' environment - I'd suggest there will be an avalanche very soon.

Eg: "woman filed a lawsuit under the name “Jane Doe” against Haifa born rock legend Gene Simmons of the legendary rock quartet KISS because of unwanted sexual advances and groping allegations on Friday at the Los Angeles, California Civil Court House."

Eg(2): "The accusations emerged last December in the comments section of an XO Jane article titled "It Happened to Me: I Dated a Famous Rock Star & All I Got Was Punched in the Face." A then-anonymous commenter claimed to have been raped by Oberst. Now... 'The statements I made and repeated online and elsewhere over the past six months accusing Conor Oberst of raping me are 100% false. I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son’s illness. I publicly retract my statements about Conor Oberst, and sincerely apologize to him, his family and his fans for writing such awful things about him. I realize that my actions were wrong and could undermine the claims of actual sexual assault victims and for that I also apologize. I’m truly sorry for all the pain that I caused.'

There is an explosive vapour in the air and any spark will get immediate attention.

Agreed, no sympathy for the rich and famous who burp and somebody's there ready to be their fuck toy. But I don't think it falls under exploitation. Every person who decides they want a romp with a star has freely made that choice and the star has decided to take advantage of their "good fortune". It's no different than a person who decides to have a one night stand with a regular person after one date or 2 min after meeting and then regrets it.

Many men will struggle to comprehend the second example because men think logically while lying accusers don't. A woman can accuse a man of rape for no other reason than to seek attention, without any consideration for how such a claim will destroy his life. Next time a guy asks you "why would she say something happened when it didn't? What does she have to gain", the answer could be as simple and stupid as "attention". There are a lot of loopy women out there.

You could also easily turn this around and point the finger at guys who take advantage of vulnerable women and then lie about it, cover it up, threaten the woman, and clearly don't give a damn about her and how her life will be destroyed.

There has always been the "uptight" crowd at work, people who don't care about the company, the work, anybody else, and are always the first to speak up when something isn't going their way, when there's extra work that needs to be done, etc. The general treatment is only deal with them when necessary else keep your distance. With women from this group, any comment/joke/statement you make that can be taken the wrong way gets taken the wrong way so you have to be on guard. I believe these women are more likely to make a false claim when nothing exists.

Anything else involving women/dating/assault/harassment comes down to relationship and interaction. Will always be a few women who seem normal and when things suddenly go south she goes off the rails. So choose wisely.

That was a different time and I'd say anything that came out now "anonymously" is a little late to ruin their careers.

Eg: "woman filed a lawsuit under the name “Jane Doe” against Haifa born rock legend Gene Simmons of the legendary rock quartet KISS because of unwanted sexual advances and groping allegations on Friday at the Los Angeles, California Civil Court House."
Doubt this will ruin his career.

In this case, the accuser wasn't anonymous. Her name is Joanie Faircloth. She left the original comments under her name, and her commenter account was linked to her Facebook. Oberst is suing her for $1 million in damages. He hasn't been dropped by his label, promoter, agent nor has he been forced to cancel concerts. In other words, his career has not been ruined.

And once again, if you'd been following the story, Hoggard's career was unraveling long before the Ottawa woman came forward with her story. He's now apologized for what he described as his “reckless and dismissive” treatment of women over the last 13 years. Those around him have bailed because of his reputation as a douchebag.

She was (as the article states) anonymous when the allegations were made. Not sure why you 'yah, but' this example as it clearly clear shows the inherent danger of giving a open un checked forum for anonymous accusations against celebrities. As for 'yah, but' Gene Simmons - I can't stand the guy but this anonymous accusation just help you reaffirm his character - that is - an anonymous accuser to some degree was free to degrade what little character he has with out fear of reprisals. You basically proved my concern.

i hold that anonymous simply enables false claims as much as it may enable real ones. It's going top get much worse for rockers who enjoyed their groupies (I doubt few with held the temptation).

In the case of Gene Simmons, it's hardly an anonymous accusation. While the victim's name has not been released, the courts know exactly who she is because she's filed a lawsuit against him. Are you saying the woman's name must be made public or it never happened?

Besides, this story isn't even close to what you're worried about happening. That a nameless groupie has sex with a rock star, feels bad about it then tries to end his career with anonymous false rape accusations.

With the internet as it is, you can't possibly stop people who want to make an anonymous claims against particular celebrity, rocker etc. In the case against Hoggard, the CBC interviewed the two women, did an investigation and interviewed witnesses before it went public with the stories. They obviously believed the women to be credible or they wouldn't have published the story. Do you think media should be banned from reporting such stories unless they publish the names of the accusers?

Sure it can happen, but I doubt there's going to be an onslaught of groupies going to large media outlets to tell their lies.

One is too many. There will be plenty.

Several music artists have fallen into this trap, whose names I can't recall. Nelly is one of them.

I'm pretty sure Tupac Shakur served time for being falsely accused. RIP.

It's also possible these women are being truthful and that the accused are guilty of sexual assault. Or are you saying they should all be dismissed as lies?

I guess women in The West should be be happy that they aren't being attacked with acid, so they need to stay in their kitchens! (aside from those in The UK, and no not all those attackers were brown Muslims).

Wait, wasn't it Western foreign policies that allowed radicalization to flourish?

No, radicalization has flourished in the ME long before any western foreign policies even existed. Muslims behaving badly predates the USA.

So I should shut up and be happy that I was only raped, not disfigured. Is that really what you are saying?
No. Rape is wrong. A slut alleged that rape occurred but we do not know if it did or not. The sex was consensual at the outset and for a time, all seemed ok, but then weeks later it became a claim of rape with evidence deleted by the acccuser. The entire scenario is unfortunate for all involved. But I do think you'd prefer to focus on this and cases far less egregious until the end of your days than to contemplate the clear cases of abuse that women suffer worldwide.

You have an interesting attitude towards women. Wanting to have sex with a rock star makes you a slut? I'll tell you, there's a whole bunch of female rock stars I'd love to have sex with, given the chance. Guess that makes me a man slut.

The sex was consensual at the outset and for a time, all seemed ok, but then weeks later it became a claim of rape with evidence deleted by the acccuser.
All seemed okay? Did you read the Ottawa woman's story? CBC has corroborated parts of her version of events by speaking with four of her friends, including a woman whom she called after leaving the hotel. As she waited for her train to Ottawa at the Tim Hortons, she called her childhood friend from Brockville, Ont., and told her Hoggard had treated her "like a dog."

Not all woman react the same way and immediately go to the Police after they're sexually assaulted. I know quite a few woman and a few men who never reported an assault. In fact almost every woman I've dated has told me about at least one experience. You have no idea what someone's mental state is after an assault.

The entire scenario is unfortunate for all involved. But I do think you'd prefer to focus on this and cases far less egregious until the end of your days than to contemplate the clear cases of abuse that women suffer worldwide.
Correct me if I'm wrong Jessica Rain, but I believe you're focusing on this case as the title of the thread is "I said stop': Ottawa woman accuses Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard of Rape."

Given Hoggard's apology for what he described as his “reckless and dismissive” treatment of women over the last 13 years and the fact that another woman has come forward with an almost identical version of events. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Then there's the Calgary radio host who also accused him of groping and making inappropriate sexual remarks to her.
