Hey guys..I just wanted to know if anyone's got an ipod mini. I feel kinda stupid..but I don't understand how I can download music other from sources other than the ITunes store. Will the player automatically read songs that are on my imesh program? And how long does this thing take to charge? It still says I shouldn't disconnect it from the computer, but I can't leave it overnight. Oh lord..I knew this attempt to buy modern gadgets would fail!!! lol..Please help!

you can buy any mp3 player and as long as it's in mp3 format, you can upload it to your player.
personally id stay away from anything iPod.
i used to work at one of the larger chain electronic stores just under 2years ago and well, they suck.
it's GENIUS AND GREAT marketing but the batteries leave something to be desired (problems) as does the price.
a friend bought an Olympus M:Robe player and WOW...that's all i got to say.
they make great cameras and now a great mp3 player.
basically, if you only download from apple, i think you're limited to their format, hence their players...not too sure, since i never dl'd from them.
but if you do choose to get an apple anything mp3 player, get the free one from TD Bank for now, to get an idea of how working the things will be, it's different from the mini, but it'll give you a start.

It only takes abuot 2 hours to get a full charge. It says do not disconnect because you have to actually eject the mini from the iTunes program. Just go up to the little iPod symbol on the left side of iTunes, where your playlists are located. To the right of that there is a tiny round circle with an arrow on it. Click on this and it will "eject" the iPod. Then you should see the screen go back to normal and you can unplug it.

Now, to get that music on there. If you have cd's, rip them into the iTunes program. Then create a playlist and drag the songs into it from the main library. You can then move the cd songs onto your iPod. To get the songs you have "acquired" by other means into iTunes, find the file location of the song and right click. You should have the choice to "open with..." pick iTunes, obviously. If this proves to be difficult, burn a cd, rip into iTunes, make playlist, move onto iPod.

Once you have your music on there, you are gonna LOVE your new toy. Remember that the first few battery cycles are going to be shorter, but will reach full life after about 3 complete charges.
Hope this helped :)

I love my mini. I haven't downloaded any music from the web yet. I went through my CD collection and uploaded any of the songs I liked; and then uploaded them to the mini.

Ultimate IPod accessory!

BMW and I imagine all the top line cars now have bluetooth built into the car audio systems meaning your IPod needs no external wiring.

This makes a BMW an IPod accessory. Selling that concept to your SO might be a little difficullt but it's worth a try!

"Honey...look what I bought for my IPod!!!!"

id still steer clear from iPod.
gadgety and great marketing behind it, that's it.
like i said, my opinion, the guys that worked around with them, always laughed at how crappy it was, i admit, i wanted it to, but there were quite a few returns with them, so no thanks, Olympus makes great cameras of course...making glass as a true science and very hard...making internal components should be a walk in the park for them...which it is...my co-workers m:robe is absolutely sweet
not to say other brands aren't good...i just have had first hand experience with this puppy...:)

yep...proprietary...but hats off to Jobs' job with the iPod...while other companies were cheap about how much they would put in terms of memory storage 128, 256, 512 then measly 1gig (pullin teeth then)...Jobs came out, put 5gigs, 10, 20 40, etc...unfuckin real, that's how companies make money and operate well...iPod is probably their main meat of income now (not to say their computers are horrible, they're amazing to) but the iPod crossed all markets...IT EVEN WENT to PC...now that's saying something...how many Rio, Toshiba, iRivers, etc, went to Apple? well...how much demand was there from the apple users...

Jobs' knows how to do his job (wa!wa!waaa!)*throws tomato at self*

I'm an ipod guy too.

I think it's great.

Of all the walkmans, CDplayers and MDs etc I have had I like my ipod the best.

So far I have just uploaded all mine and other people's CDs that I borrowed. I still have lots more room for more though.

BTW I never listen to that warning that says do not diconnect now or whatever. Just unplug it. Never hurt the ipod or my computer yet. (I think)

Oh so you know some of the guys i work with from SUN Systems and Apple that helped develop the iPod firmware and OS ....... so what is crap about it from your engineering point of view?
The only people i know that thought it was crap were the guys that thought they were too expensive. But to each their own.
Man John Dvorak thought the iPod was crap till he got to use one and he now owns two and he hates Apple but admits Apple has made the best new technology device for personal use and entertainment. I have a backup of my home directory calendar and address book on my ipod if i ever need to boot from someone else Mac i have all of my settings and apps i need for trouble shooting and admin server admin work.

iPod Nano

I ordered two of these sight unseen (one for my wife too), because they seemed designed for my needs, to replace our iPod minis. Today I went to the Apple Store to see what I bought and they do indeed have what I judge a perfect form factor--just about the size of a business card but with a sharp color screen; any smaller and they might get awkward to use--and a very nice feel. Plus they are really fast in viewing color pictures.

I've had the original iPod and four minis (one mini for each person in my family) with no problems. It is true that the battery life is not as long as some competitors and they are not cheap. For me, the best things they have going are ease of use and the iTunes software which is excellent--my eleven yo picked it up instantly when we got the kids theirs last Xmas. The competitor we had was very clunky by comparison. The kids absolutely love their minis and use them a lot. Since i use mine when I working out, the smaller and less obtrusive, the better. Plus I want to be able to carry pictures with me. Thus the nano is a great upgrade to the mini (if it proves durable).

I think it's been great so far. No battery issues at all. 60GB is obscene. Maybe if I could get access to Goober's porn collection, I could start to put a dent in that storage space.....nevermind....who needs that much gay porn anyway?

Wonder how many people with "battery issues" didn't properly charge it the first time?

No clue why anyone would pay for that shit when it's still free and legal in canada. Again, clever marketing.
Free yes, legal I am not sure. What they tried unsuccessfully in court is to get the ISPs to turn over names of downloaders. That doesn't necessarily make it legal.

To Import From Other Sources

Simply burn a CD of those songs ( woohoo use up a whopping 10 cents on a CD ) and then import that CD into the iPod.

I won a bunch of realplayer tunes and tried to import to iPod with no luck. An internet search and 5 minutes later they were all on my system.
