When i talk about the folks who i described as taken in by the glitz and Obama's smoothness I"m talking about the uninformed, easily swayed and led people who are all for Obama yet when asked, cannot think of even one of his policies or ideas. They can say that they liked him better than Hillary, that he is black and we need a black president, that he is younger than McCain etc etc but have no idea of what the man stands for and what he wants to do with the U.S. Their vote has been influenced only by the glitz and smoothness of Obama and not the important things we should look at like his policies.

Like my Uncle John in Ohio who answered the question "Why are you going to vote Republican"?......."Because i always do".
........ Actually, policies aside .....if you just look at the absolutely STUPID decision that McCain made re: Palin as his running mate - a pure publicity stunt and nothing more ..... why would anyone vote for McCain after such an insane decision???

You're not insulting me, don't worry. I think the guy is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate who has run a smart and ethical campaign and has already given America a reason to hope again. If you think he's shallow and glitzy, that's cool with me. I consider him a person of depth and substance.

I think it's a profound moment that a black man is about to become president, and it turns out it's not because of his skin colour but because of his character. If you're not moved by that, what would move you? ;)

That doesn't mean he won't be judged on day one in January. In fact, he'll be under even more scrutiny because of all the "hype" (or excitement, or both).
I don't think Obama is shallow or glitzy, my only comment was about those who were taken in by this part of his campaign and not the man himself. I have yet to decide for myself what i truly feel about him. Time will tell for me.

You are right that i am unmoved that a black man is likely to be the next president, that it is his policies and not his skin colour that will determine whether he will win or not. I am unmoved because i have never viewed Obama as a black man, only a man. I will be moved one day when an election takes place and the only talk is about the candidates qualifications, ideas and policies and there is not a word about race, religion or sex.

It will be interesting times for us all. I hope they will be better times.

I agree with you 100%. It was a calculated move which took him from trailing Obama to leading him in the polls for a short time. People were actually impressed by this move and Palin up until they got a closer look. Those who were impressed concern me. These people are in the same category as those voters who put their X on the first name on the ballot.

The Saturday night live thing really killed it for me and i did not even watch it!

When i started to think more about Boning Palin than what she had to say, i knew it was probably over for McCain.

These are not the folks the US people want running the country?

I really feel that better candidates could have been found in the 300 million plus people in the US.

BTW Just a reminder, Barrack is not completely black, he's only 50% black, the other 50% is white.
People seem to forget that

Obama's parents are an African man and white American woman

I've heard several people say this, and I just don't believe them. I think some of the most enlightened say this and wish it was true about them, but he is black. I see him as a black man, and I think the fact that he is black makes him even more extraordinary. Just to think we may hear the words - "Barack Hussain Obama President of the United States" that alone to me is transformational as it will forever alter many, many things. The fact that he is a brilliant and charismatic person, that just makes things even better. He is so good, that if he wins, I think I can even accept Bush, because without 8 years of Bush hell, Obama would not be possible.
